PayPal Invest platform team is building set of new capabilities to be deployed in AWS as cloud native applications, to power stock trading experience for clients like PayPal and Venmo. We believe in lean teams delivering a lot of value, so you will be part of a team building trade capabilities like User On-boarding, Account Management, Portfolio Management, Trade Execution, Discovery & Education, and Trade Back Office. You will be exposed to complex engineering problems and will be working on technologies like GraphQL, Java, JS, High throughput no SQL and Search Stores, Cloud based services and exposure to client tech stack as part of the development process, all at a high scale and precision. The Invest platform team is seeking candidates with a strong background in Java and related frameworks in AWS. As a technical lead, you will collaborate with multiple stakeholders to translate business requirements into clear functional specifications. You will design & build solutions to problems and guide other developers to do the same. Previous work on cloud native tools or platform teams would be an added advantage. We want candidates with a vision for how to empower customers by building delightful experiences. You should be familiar with the latest tools & practices popular in the Java community.   • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team to define, design, implement, test, release rollout and support complex software applications for PayPal.
  • Work with business units to crystallize business needs into product features.
  • Consult with business units on feasibility, technical requirements and cost estimates for new initiatives.
  • Work with engineering managers, engineers & QA to develop innovative solutions that meet market needs w.r.t functionality, performance, reliability, realistic implementations schedules and adherence to development goals and principles.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to other software engineers.
  • Provide technical and domain thought-leadership and mentoring to junior members of the team.
  • Review and approve software design and completed code.
  • Identify areas of technical improvement and make detailed business cases for improvements or new areas of opportunities.
  • Develop new team capabilities to ensure continued competence and relevance in supporting software development needs of PayPal's business.
  • Define and devise processes, tools and methodologies to achieve excellence in software development, testing and deployment

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering and 3+ years related industry experience.


  • Design and implementation of low-latency and high-availability
  • Experience building non-REST APIs such as GraphQL.
  • In depth knowledge of server-side architecture and design.
  • In depth knowledge of JavaScript and Express.
  • Experience with testing frameworks like jest, cypress
  • Source Control (GIT experience is an advantage)
  • Jenkins/Hudson, Maven/Ant experiences would be a plus
  • Understanding of core AWS services, uses, and basic AWS architecture best practices
  • Proficiency in developing, deploying, and debugging cloud-based applications using AWS
  • Ability to use the AWS service APIs, AWS CLI, and SDKs to write applications
  • Ability to identify key features of AWS services
  • Understanding of the AWS shared responsibility model
  • Working experience with trading domain and cloud will be an added advantage. 
  • Possess a passion for software development and a drive to get things done.
  • Problem solving skills and being open minded about solving a technical problem in more than one way.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills; ability to produce clear, concise communications and documentation.
  • Ability to work on different applications with quick context switching and being able to debug complex code with relative ease.
  • Awareness and experience with best practices for web development, accessibility, page performance etc.
  • Experience with GitHub, managing branches and resolving merge conflicts.
  • Highly analytical, innovative, and able to think strategically and to develop comprehensive detailed specifications.
  • Ability to determine impact of architectural solutions and recommendations. Must have experience in justification of technology solutions to business leaders.  
  • Highly effective at working in cross-functional groups and getting results in matrix organizations.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities
