Job Description

At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives. We’re a purpose-driven company, and our beliefs are the foundation of how we conduct business every day. We’re guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Collectively, these values inspire us to work together as One Team with our customers at the center of everything we do, and to take care of ourselves, each other, and the communities in which we live and work. We challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. Join us as we enable the hopes, dreams, and ambitions of millions of people around the world.

The PayPal SDK and Integrations team is seeking to reinvent the way we pay online. Our team is responsible for enabling millions of merchants around the world to accept payments within their mobile apps and websites. We always keep developers and their needs at the top of our mind and strive to provide the best-in-class developer experience. We are looking for a passionate, highly talented, self-driven, and proven iOS Engineer to join our team! In this role, you will be developing and enabling new payment methods and features for PayPal’s iOS SDK. You will play a pivotal role in designing and building the next generation of PayPal’s developer experience. You will be responsible for building and delivering features for PayPal’s iOS SDK, maintaining and contributing to open source, evangelizing and engaging with external developers. We’re looking for someone who is eager to learn and able to master many technologies and has a strong focus on empathizing and understanding what developers need.

What you’ll be doing

  • Developing and enabling new payment methods and features through PayPal’s iOS SDK.
  • Working with stakeholders across PayPal to create a simple, robust iOS SDK that enables all PayPal has to offer.
  • Partnering closely with cross functional partners in design and product.
  • Providing feedback on code and contributing to architecture discussions.
  • Engaging with internal and external developers to better understand developer pain points and ways to improve the developer experience.

  • Comfortable working with Swift and using modern iOS best practices.
  • Experience using or building SDKs, libraries or APIs are great to have but not required.
  • Excited about our team’s focus on open source and improving developer experiences.
  • Experience working in an Agile environment.
  • Keep up to date on industry trends and technologies and apply them to our products.

How we work

  • Communication is key to our process, and we don’t want to hinder it with walls. We work directly with other teams.
  • Engineers build, test, release and monitor their own code.
  • We pair program often. We believe that we do our best work when we work and collaborate together.
  • We default to async communication and call for meetings when necessary.
  • We hold daily stand-ups and have regular retrospectives to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements.
  • We value unique perspectives brought by diverse backgrounds and experiences. A broad range of ideas and perspectives help us to create the best possible product.

Types of projects we work on

  • We do a lot of open-source development as our SDKs are in public GitHub. We also contribute to other open-source projects.
  • We own PayPal’s SDKs, which are the primary way for a merchant to accept payments in their Websites and Mobile apps.
  • We are launching new and interesting ways to pay through the SDKs.
  • We create easy-to-use developer tools that supplement our SDKs and Integrations.
  • We are focused on improving the developer experience by engaging with the external developer community, creating tutorials, blogs, and speaking at conferences.

Other cultural aspects

  • Open dev days: every two weeks we spend a day working on projects that interest us and help us expand our skills and knowledge.
  • Participation in the technology community: we help cover travel and attendance costs for conferences, and we offer opportunities and tools for speaking.
