The Braintree Payment Processing Engineering team in Chennai is responsible for building payment experience that enable processing billions of transactions for Braintree merchants i.e. PayPal’s Enterprise merchants. The payment processing engineering team is a critical part for the Braintree organization. Our merchants are at the center of everything we do. GRAbout the Role:

Software Engineer

We are looking for a software engineer with experience in building high-performing, scalable, available applications. You'll be part of a cross-functional team that's responsible for the full product development life cycle, from conception to deployment and further.

The ideal candidate is a software engineer with experience in back end technologies and awareness of the payment industry trends, card, bank processing, and payment transaction model. Business acumen, technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mindset are key to the success of this role.

We practices test driven development and believes that it helps us deliver simple solution focus on real customer needs. The engineers in the team will work closely with global product and engineering teams to build next generation payment products. 

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain client-side and server-side software components including webservices/REST API, real-time systems and batches.

  • Write clean and solid code that scales over millions of customers.

  • Prototype ideas quickly using cutting edge technologies.

  • Work with product managers using agile scrum/xp methodologies to deliver high quality solutions on time.

  • Show pride of ownership and strive for excellence in everything you do.

The ideal candidate will be a quick learner and be able to work independently or collaborate effectively with small team.

Required technical skills:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience building software applications with object oriented or functional programming.

  • Minimum 3 years experience working with Ruby on Rails.

  • Experience with REST API’s, Web Services, Unit Testing and build tools.

  • Interest in Test Driven Development (TDD) and specific experiences using a test heavy approach to solve problems and create solutions.

  • Strong applied experience. You’ve built, broken, and rebuilt software applications. We’re looking for creative thinkers who also know how to create real-world products.

  • Experience writing Unit and automation tests. Framework like selenium, Junit, JMeter etc.

  • Strong foundational knowledge in Object-Oriented Design Principles, Data Structures, Algorithms, SQL/NoSQL, and Software Engineering.

  • Experience writing Ruby Gems/libraries is a plus

  • Prior experience with AWS is a plus

  • Should be a fast learner.

  • A team player who values collaboration, innovation, and inclusion.

  • Proven experience.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong customer focus, ownership, urgency and drive.

  • Interest in the payments industry.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s and /or Master’s degree in computer science or equivalent.
