Small and Medium Businesses (SMBs) are the are the lifeblood of society, representing ~50% of global GDP, they are a critical part of PayPal’s business. The PayPal SMB team sets the global strategy for how we help SMBs to sell more effectively using PayPal’s platform, by defining differentiated value propositions and effective sales and marketing strategies, and unlocking new growth opportunities via partnerships and product. The SMB Acquisition Strategy Lead will be in charge of defining commercial strategies to grow Small Businesses acquisition, activation, and adoption across geographies based on a rigorous segmentation of the market. They will be responsible for overseeing and, where needed, leading/supporting the execution of strategic initiatives; additionally, they will identify opportunities beyond ongoing acquisition funnel activities - within our existing business or through untapped market opportunities. The SMB Acquisition Strategy Lead will represent the true “connective tissue” between the different teams and functions (such as product, marketing, finance and sales) that shape and bring to life PayPal’s acquisition strategy and priorities. This person will have a good understanding of the needs of SMBs, they will track overall acquisition trends and portfolio performance in order to identify risks or opportunities in the SMB “FrontBook”, and they will adapt our strategy accordingly. They will be able to articulate current performance and recommendations across multiple channels, including sales, organic/self-serve, website, marketing, and partners. They will have to work effectively with global and regional teams to make sure all stakeholders are aligned to the overall segment plan and have a regular cadence with them to ensure they understand the drivers of performance in the portfolio.

Responsibilities
 

  • Define SMB global priorities across the overall acquisition funnel (Acquisition, Activation, Adoption) based on the overall commercial SMB strategy

  • Oversee and reduce friction in the execution of SMB acquisition projects across functions (e.g.  inside sales, marketing, partner, product, web, pricing, risk, compliance, customer support)

  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate SMB portfolio opportunities to senior audience of country and regional leads

  • Identify risks and opportunities based on deep understanding of SMB performance drivers

  • Propose changes to strategy and tactics to improve performance, or in response to changing market conditions

Skills/Experience
 

  • Experience in the Small Business segment in an innovative and global context

  • Experience in leading and influencing large cross-functional teams to a clear outcome

  • Experience in business case development, market and opportunity sizing and preparing strategic recommendations for senior executives

  • Demonstrated ability to simplify complex topics while not losing sight of details

  • Combination of strategic thinking with hands on execution

  • Strong quantitative analytical skills, able to manage independently through data and insights to build compelling and innovative strategies

  • Very strong customer focus, naturally including customer perspective in plans, decisions and actions

  • Experience leading complex strategic and operational initiatives, working through technical, operational, legal/policy and business issues

  • 4+ years working in a business strategy or commercial management capacity

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with a natural talent for crafting and presenting compelling recommendations at C-level

  • Experience in the fin-tech or payments space a plus
