About the team:  

Our current team, which is made up of 8 engineers (5 senior, 1 mid, and 2 junior) and is based in Boulder, Colorado, delivers products and features that delight our more than 20 million dedicated Honey users and more than 300 million PayPal and Venmo users. Our goal is to make it as easy as possible to save money while doing online shopping on an Android device. We value ego-free code reviews, a passion for in-depth architecture discussions, and following security best practices to protect our users and their trust in us. We do regular demos of our work to keep ourselves accountable to each other and to the other product stakeholders.  

About the Role:  

We want you to join us as an Android Software Engineer on the Honey Android team. You will focus on both the Honey app and building and enhancing libraries and SDKs that utilize Honey’s money-saving technologies and integrating them into the PayPal and Venmo apps. You’ll be working in a codebase that is 100% Kotlin and leverages modern technologies like coroutines, data binding, and Jetpack navigation. You can expect to work with a cross-disciplinary team including mobile engineers, front-end web engineers, backend engineers, data scientists, data engineers, quality assurance, and product management to enhance existing product features and build new ones.   


What You'll Do:  

As an Android Software Engineer at Honey, you will:  

  • Work closely with a product manager on product requirements and translating those requirements to technical solutions as part of new feature development  

  • Work on both UI and platform frameworks like networking and caching  

  • Maintain the codebase and fix bugs  

  • Extract portions of Honey’s app into libraries and SDKs for PayPal’s shopping app  

  • Evaluate new technologies (e.g. Jetpack Compose) and methodologies (e.g. Kotlin Flow) with an emphasis on quality and performance   

  • Architect, write, review, and test code in a collaborative environment with other software engineers  

  • Leverage your peers as multipliers for your skills and utilize your deep knowledge of the Android ecosystem to level up the other engineers on your team  


About You:  

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience working with common design patterns, algorithms, and object-oriented programming  

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Android Development  

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience with Kotlin  

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience mentoring and developing software engineers  

  • Capable of using written and verbal communication to understand and explain technical issues to a non-technical audience  


Nice-to-Have Qualifications:  

  • Experience developing, maintaining, and innovating large scale, consumer-facing mobile applications  

  • Strong understanding of testing best practices   

  • Familiarity with at least one testing framework for Android

Colorado Only:  The pay range for this position in Colorado starts at $94,400 per year, plus annual bonus.  We take into consideration an individual’s background and experience in determining final salary.  All PayPal employees are shareholders in our Company,  so equity is part of our total compensation plan.   This role is also eligible for health insurance, stock purchase plans, retirement savings benefits, stock awards, life insurance and disability benefits, and paid time off for sick leave, parental leave, vacation, and PTO.  To learn more visit This information is provided per the Colorado Equal Pay Act.
