The Senior Manager, Tax – Business Advisory, is responsible for the tax support for special initiatives undertaken by PayPal. The role requires significant subject matter expertise in U.S. domestic and international tax laws and experience with tax planning and business support. The Senior Manager will be based at PayPal HQ in San Jose, CA and will report to the Sr. Director, Tax – Global Business Advisory.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide tax support for Blockchain, Crypto and Digital Currencies (BCDC) business unit initiatives including geographic expansion of PayPal/Venmo crypto offerings and other crypto related projects
  • Provide tax support for special corporate initiatives focused on potential expansions of, or structural changes to, PayPal’s existing business and product offerings
  • Provide support for tax planning initiatives
  • Analyze the U.S. federal and state tax impact of BCDC and special initiatives and the related support needed to operationalize those initiatives
  • Work closely with other tax team members to ensure alignment and consistent messaging
  • Advise Tax Management of the tax impacts of special initiatives
  • Build relationships with corporate and business unit personnel to ensure tax integration with ongoing special initiatives

Qualifications:

  • Significant experience in U.S. domestic and international tax matters, including Subpart F, GILTI, FDII, BEAT, transfer pricing, debt financings, repatriation of earnings, captive insurance, hedging/FX, tax treaty application, and foreign tax credit matters 
  • Experience with tax issues involving blockchain and cryptocurrency matters is preferred
  • Strong project management skills
  • Resourcefulness and adaptability
  • Collaborative, team-oriented perspective
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to explain complex tax concepts to non-tax stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Excel, Word, Outlook, and Sharepoint
  • Working familiarity with ASC 740 concepts
  • 8-12 years of combined experience in tax with a law firm, public accounting firm and/or in-house role 
  • Bachelors degree required; JD/LLM/CPA preferred
