Roles & Responsibilities

PayPal is looking for driven and collaborative graduate or working professional who is passionate about using his/her software development skillsets to develop security research prototypes and tools that demonstrate business and technology value. Interested candidate should have the essential software development skills, is interested to work in network security and cryptography domain, possesses a keen to learn mindset, takes pride and ownership in delivering high standard and functional prototypes.

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will join the information security research and development team in PayPal. The candidate will work with the senior cryptography strategist, the network security and cryptography research lead, program manager and fellow information security colleagues to code and develop research prototypes and technology demonstrators that incorporate advanced cryptography and network security technology. These research prototypes and demonstrators will be used for subsequent proof-of-concepts, technology pilots to assess the security risk of emerging technology, protect data assets, support regulatory & compliance due diligence and strength PayPal’s capability on technology oversight.

The candidate is expected to:

  • Work closely with the senior research lead, program manager and other immediate team members to understand the application use case, research prototype coding requirements and translate them into actionable scope of work,

  • Deliver research prototype for the identified research use cases and applications through working independently either as an individual contributor or with other developers and engineers as a team,

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the technical steps required to build and integrate new security functionalities and tools developed from research into existing PayPal platform, products and services,

  • Be systematic and disciplined in creating detailed documenting throughout the course of development work,

  • Take ownership in delivering impact research outcomes through good coding practices and driving resolution of technical problems in the course of development,

  • Possess good analytical and communication skills to present the research prototype, explain technical difficulty faced and communicate support required,

  • Highly motivated, goal-driven, possess can-do attitude to embrace challenges and changes

Requirements - What we are looking for:

  • Fresh graduate or working professional with a degree in Computer Science/ Engineering, Information Security/ Systems/Technology, Applied Mathematics/ Mathematical Science, Engineering or related degree.

  • Programming experience in at least 2 of these programming languages, Go, Java, C++, NodeJS, JS, and/or Python, is required.
    At least 2 years of coding experience in these areas is preferred.

  • Experience with package management and version control tools, especially GitHub, is preferred.

  • Front-end or back-end server development experience required. Practical experience of RESTful web services development is preferred.

  • Web and server security knowledge on TLS, PKI, SSO (SAML, OAuth) and session management is required.

  • Knowledge and working experience with basic cryptography schemes like asymmetric, symmetric encryption or hashing functions is required.

  • Possess a curious mind and is willing to learn new and emerging security technology areas

  • Ability to design and architect security platform is a bonus.
