Job Description

At PayPal, we are rethinking how to provide diverse solutions to real-world challenges. Through the Recharge program, we encourage skilled women technologists who have taken a career break for personal or family reasons to feel equipped to return to the workforce.

Are you a technical woman who has taken a career break? Or perhaps you have taught yourself to code, but you don’t have any industry work experience. If this describes you, then you should apply for our Recharge program. Specifically, we are looking for women who have been out of the workforce for at least 1-2 years but are ready to jump back into technical roles.

Recharge is a 16-week paid program which provides individuals who want to return to the workforce an opportunity to expand their experience and network. The program will start in October 2017.

The PayPal Merchant Technical Engineer serves as a technical expert of PayPal's products and services and is able to identify, analyze and resolve software related bugs. The Technical Engineer is responsible for providing technical expertise to merchants, developers and internal PayPal teams through the development lifecycle. Leadership and adaptability are a key component to this position, as it will require building strong relationships across the organization and being able to take the lead as the technical expert.
  • Installation and setup of payment interfaces, APIs, and commerce products, while working directly with developers, merchant and internal teams on post integration issues to provide technical support, consulting and best practices.
  • Identify, troubleshoot and run test scenarios for technical issues with code, software, hardware, devices and endpoints.
  • Communicate issues to PayPal merchants and to other PayPal departments.
  • Generates and reviews in-depth technical information (Sample code, white papers, FAQs, Snippets) for distribution to PayPal merchants.
  • This is a full time position with on call duties on occasion

Requirements:

  • Understands coding - proficiency reading, understanding, and evaluating code in one or more standard programming language (e.g., Java, C++)
  • Has Experience with Software Application Debugging and troubleshooting
  • Understanding of HTML, JavaScript, Web Services, SOAP and REST.
  • Understanding of network protocols, firewalls, and service side errors.
  • A constant desire to grow, learn, and explore new things
  • Analytical thinker, able to take a complex problem and simplify  
  • Strong written, verbal and leadership skills with the ability to influence
  • Driven to get results and not let anything get in your way
  • Show pride of ownership and strive for excellence in everything they do

Basic Qualifications:

  • At least 3 to 5  years past professional technical experience
  • Education:  Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related Science degree
