PayPal is looking for a talented and collaborative graduate or working professional who is passionate about applying quantum computing research to solve financial services and technology problems. The candidate needs to have hands-on and/or educational experience in at least two of the following areas: - Quantum Computing – preferably with knowledge/experience in its application to Machine Learning, graph optimization etc. - Strong foundation on theoretical quantum computing algorithms as well as the physics underpinnings of quantum computing - Cryptography - preferably in the fields of post-quantum cryptography, secure multiparty computation, privacy preserving technology and trusted computing - Programming experience in at least one of the following: Go, C/C++ or Python - Security architecture & solution development

Roles & Responsibilities
PayPal is looking for a talented and collaborative graduate or working professional who is passionate about applying quantum computing research to solve financial services and technology problems. Interested candidates should possess a keen-to-learn and open mindset, and be willing to take up challenges during the research and development lifecycle. The candidates also need to have hands-on and/or educational experience in at least two of the following areas:

  • Quantum Computing – preferably with knowledge/experience in its application to Machine Learning, graph optimization etc.

  • Strong foundation on theoretical quantum computing algorithms as well as the physics underpinnings of quantum computing

Primary Responsibilities

The candidate will join the Emerging Technology Research team which is part of PayPal’s Technology and Information Security Oversight organization. Working closely with the head of research and other team members, the candidate will conduct applied research to assess the possibilities of leveraging quantum computing to improve processes as well as quantum-proof PayPal’s security.

The researcher can expect to:

  • Engage with senior research lead and stakeholders to craft an quantum computing research projects that are meaningful for PayPal and the wider ecosystem

  • Engage cross-functional and business teams to understand the business needs, existing gaps, use cases and propose suitable research plan

  • Deliver on research plan by increasing technology readiness and producing research outputs such as proof-of-concept, minimum viable product and technical white papers etc.

  • Present research project findings to Information Security leaders and relevant stakeholders to either seed technology adoption and/or strengthen security technology oversight capability

Requirements - What we are looking for:

  • Fresh graduate or professional with a PhD or in Quantum Computing or a Computer Science / Applied Mathematics/ Mathematical Science degree with a PhD specialisation in quantum computing.

  • Advanced cryptography knowledge in post quantum cryptography is preferred

  • Programming experience in Golang, C/C++, Python or Java – preferably Golang

  • Customer champion, passionate about doing R&D and willing to take up new challenges during the R&D lifecycle

  • Possess a curious mind and is willing to learn new and emerging security technology areas

  • Ability to work well within a team environment and an interest in deepening knowledge of real-world information security principles

  • Strong analytical skills along with necessary communication skills necessary to document the processes and actions taken to complete each assignment

  • Technical writing skill is required

  • Ability to present research to an internal or external audience is preferred
