The Team – Marketing Technology (aka MarTech): 

MarTech team is responsible for the technology & experiences driving PayPal marketing activities touching millions of customers worldwide. Team is on a transformational journey to consolidate disparate tools onto a common marketing platform that can automatically drive intelligent decisions about the next best action for any given customer based on how they interact with PayPal products & services. In order to succeed in this endeavor we are creating an ecosystem that brings together people, process & platform as one; offering our customers a hyper-personalized experience that is both timely and relevant. The team comprises of highly skilled & experienced technologists who work closely with data scientists & marketers to implementing solutions that drive value for our customers and ultimately to PayPal. For you to succeed on this team it is important to be comfortable working in a multi-functional setup, demonstrate high degree of autonomy, stay curious, willingness to learn & experiment, and help drive best of class engineering practises. 

 

MarTech team is part of the broader Employee Technology & Experiences (ETX) organization at PayPal. 

 

Location: Austin, London or Bangalore 

 

Travel: Main destinations will include San Jose (Global HQ) & Global Hubs: New York, London, Singapore.

What will your week look like? 

You know the internal and external customer more than they know themselves. Day after day you articulate clear customer propositions using Test Driven Development (TDD) and Behavior Driven Development (BDD). Clear articulation gets the team aligned, gives team clarity with a groomed backlog and Weighted Shortest Job First (WSJF) prioritization becomes a walk in the park. You treat your team members as customers and thus get immersed in their work to understand the pain points and come up with enablement features for the team. You know a magical experience for your team members is the only way to get a magical experience for our customers. You enable the team to constantly make the right decisions using customer-centric measures. 

  

Skills to be used: Lean Product Management, Specification by Example – Gherkin, Writing Effective Features and User stories 

 

What will your quarter look like? 

You are focused on evolving customer value propositions and shape your goals based on customer experience with an “employee-first” mantra. You are enabling everyone everywhere to challenge the propositions. You are a big fan of the product blueprint. The blueprint is crystal clear for you and you have a simple but continuously updated diagram to make it crystal clear for anyone else. You have made and delivered a measurement framework comprised of Leading and Lagging indicators aligned with strategy. This measurement framework ensure team are delivering value. Teams love this transparent framework for decision making – it’s invaluable. You organize planning events and keep the backlog groomed for just enough roadmap runway and manage queue length like a pro.  

  

Skills to be used: Customer Experience, Basic Enterprise Architecture, Organizational skills, Roadmap management, Metrics management. 

 

What will your year look like? 

You embody coaching and not gatekeeping. You know software development is a knowledge acquisition exercise for the team. The team is now working autonomously, enabled by your coaching combined with the product blueprint, and the knowledge shared with everyone in the team. They can come up with propositions themselves and test against the Measurement framework to test if hypotheses behind propositions are valid or not. These propositions which team comes up with are loved by your customers. And above all, you have embedded a Product and Platform mindset across the teams you have worked with.  

  

Skills to be used: Coaching, Training and Communication skills. Team Management. Internal & External learning & prototyping new ways of working. 

 

Education & Experience required: 

  • Innovation, Design or Product management degree with some Computer engineering education / certifications / experience.  

  • Multiple year experience in delivering engineering focused products in Agile and Lean environment.  

  • Essential experience in managing multiple small/medium workstreams in parallel.
