The Enterprise Data Lake (EDL) Team is within the Technology Platforms & eXperience (TPX) organization. Its charter is to build a more effective platform for managing data across our rapidly growing enterprise. To achieve this vision, we are looking for people with a passion and curiosity to solve customer problems with data. The internal stakeholders for the Program include but are not limited to PayPal Inc.’s Product Teams, Finance, Risk, Compliance and Strategy Teams. Our External stakeholders include Customers and Regulators amongst others. PayPal is looking to hire an experienced data architect to help design the logical and physical data models within our enterprise data platforms. In this role, you will work alongside multiple project delivery teams, providing architecture support within the end to end life-cycle of managing data. You will help to evolve & maintain a consistent logical data model to represent PayPal enterprise data assets, and help project delivery teams to remain aligned with that model across varied physical environments. The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong technology knowledge coupled with effective communications skills to lead through influence and become a trusted supporter to our Technical Teams. The candidate should possess deep understanding of financial product data and associated platforms and technology. For example, this experience would include financial product master data, customer data, transaction data, financial reporting data, liquidity and market risk data, financial forecasting data, risk data and regulatory data. Responsibilities include:

  • Drive strategic design of the Enterprise Data Model . . . enabling & influencing the creation of a “common lexicon” across PayPal.
  • Work with technical product leads to design and deliver solutions that optimize use of product data.
  • Lead data model discussions that involve multiple project teams from PayPal and our partner organizations. 
  • Construct and maintain business and technical architecture models that lever industry standards and use cases to create operating efficiency.
  • Provide guidance and direction to development teams.
  • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
  • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform.
  • Work closely with internal teams including compliance, privacy, risk, information security, support and operations to ensure all business requirements are considered in the design process.
  • Participate in the development of architectures, strategies, and policies around data governance; including master data management, metadata management, data quality and data profiling.


  • 5+ years’ experience building large scalable database platforms, specifically with a focus on optimizing data models to an array of data integration and consumption patterns.
  • Experience and understanding of data & how to design data models for Payments, FinTech, Financial Services industry is required.
  • Expertise in designing for reliability, availability, scalability and performance in large scale systems.
  • Extensive knowledge of data management strategies & technologies, and how to influence for the right approach based on business requirements.
  • Experience in designing data models for various physical environments, both on-premises as well as in the cloud, while influencing for the most efficient approach based on business requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex topics through effective documentation as well as presentation.
