MTS 2 Software Engineer, in Chennai or Bangalore

GDS (Global Data Sciences) is a PayPal unit specializing in the development of data solutions as well as data-science, Machine-Learning, and AI solutions for multiple domains across PayPal - Risk, Fraud, Credit Sales, Marketing, Customer-support, Product experience, Global Operation, and more. We use data, technology, and innovative machine learning algorithms to drive business results and improve customer experience.

We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to be part of the GDS Engineering Team. The candidate will be responsible for the analysis, design, development, and testing of application code. The candidate will interact with global cross-functional teams to address complex business requirements. The individual should be self-motivated, possess creative problem-solving skills as well as the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.

Role and Responsibilities:

In this role, the individual will be part of the Credit data engineering team within the Credit Platform organization and have the following responsibilities.

  • Design and implement an integrated credit data platform that is extremely high-volume, fault-tolerant, scalable backend systems that process and manage petabytes of customer data.
  • Participating and collaborating with cross-functional teams in the organization to understand the business requirements and to deliver solutions that can scale.
  • Planning the execution of the project in an effective and efficient manner.
  • Applying creativity and out of the box thinking.
  • Proactively anticipating problems and appropriately communicating to the team and management in a timely manner.
  • Being flexible and being able to support all functions of the product life cycle when required.
  • Adapting quickly and working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to deliver with high quality from coarse grained requirements
  • Be a Mentor for the junior members of the organization

Required Skills:

  • Bachelor’s/Master’s in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience
  • 13+ years of experience in the IT industry, experience in the Data space is preferred.
  • Experience in Data modeling, Hadoop, Spark (Scala/Python), Spark-SQL, SQL, and any Cloud Platform is preferred
  • Expertise in databases (SQL/NOSQL) and strong SQL querying skills are required
  • Advanced scripting experience - Python, Shell, etc.,
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions
  • Knowledge of Scheduling Tools (preferably Airflow, UC4) is a plus
  • Working knowledge on any ETL tool (i.e., Informatica) is a plus.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with data movement techniques and best practices to handle large volumes of data
  • Prior Experience in the Credit domain will be a plus
  • Experience with data warehousing architecture and data modeling best practices
  • Experience with performance, scalability, and reliability issues of 24x7 systems
  • Strong communication skills and willingness to take initiative to contribute beyond core-responsibilities
