PayPal’s “Consumer In Store” team is looking for an experienced and hands-on engineering manager who will lead and develop a team of skilled engineers, drive design and implementation and deliver state of the art mobile and web experiences for our customers transacting in physical shops and stores. As an Engineering Manager, you will develop and influence the product experience for PayPal’s customers in 200+ countries. You have deep experience in building customer facing products that involve mobile applications, web interfaces, as well as mid-tier and backend components. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mind set are the key to your success in this role. You will be working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, user experience design and engineering) and will require admirable articulation, negotiation and influencing skills given the level of visibility. Experience or awareness of the payments industry is a big plus.

The primary role of the software development manager in “Consumer In-Store” team is to manage scrum team(s), responsible for the delivery of world class mobile and web experiences, services and APIs for PayPal’s suite of products. This position requires background in software engineering, technical and people management. The successful candidate will work with other engineering managers to take care of day-to-day operations of a software engineering team and manage the quality delivery of programs within schedule.

Job Requirements:

  • Managing a rapidly evolving technology stack on a diverse set of platforms ranging from Mobile applications, Web applications, Backend technologies, etc.;
  • Facilitating and driving key technology decisions with senior technology stakeholders;
  • Attracting, retaining and building top notch engineering talent;
  • Partnering with geographically distributed product, technology, program management and analytics stakeholders to balance aggressive roadmap against engineering principles; 
  • Be a mentor, technical leader and thought leader for a talented team of both front end and back end engineers, challenging them and enabling them grow;
  • Building a culture of learning and sharing technology insights across the technology teams;
  • Driving consistent practices in hiring, training and development across the technology organization;
  • Bring innovation to the table that helps in improving the resiliency of products you are responsible for, sell your ideas and be part of the change;
  • Looking for continuous improvement in productivity and quality;
  • Tracking business impact of features on a regular basis, and rely on performance data to make informed decisions about possible changes or improvements;

Qualifications:

  • Experience in designing, implementing and maintaining high performance, high availability, large-scale Mobile and Web applications; Experience with backend development is a plus;
  • 3+ years of experience managing and growing high performing engineering teams responsible for large scale mobile applications development;
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to grasp and convey complex product requirements or technical concepts;
  • Strong agile skills and proven track record for product delivery in a fast paced environment and ability to work on concurrent assignments with different priorities;
  • Experience building and managing highly effective engineering teams, conducting performance reviews, making compensation decisions and recruiting talent;
  • Solid knowledge of Android and/or iOS mobile architecture, lifecycle, SDK/APIs and performance optimization 
  • Hands-on mobile app development experience with multiplatform responsive design, developing libraries, dynamic modules and SDKs;
  • Knowledge of RESTful and/or GraphQL Services required. Knowledge of JavaScript/Node/React, Java would be a plus;
  • Ability to partner with geographically distributed business units, product management, program management and cross-functional teams to deliver business results with agility and high quality;
  • Proven results oriented person with focus on customer experience and delivering quality products;
  • Entrepreneurial drive, demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in an innovative and fast paced environment;
  • BS/MS in Computer Science with 8+ years of working experience in software industry.
