PayPal Data Platform Engineering Team is looking for a highly talented and experienced Engineering Manager to help design and build core data services that deal with big data (>90PB) at low latency (i.e. sub-second) for a variety of use-cases spanning near-real time analytics and machine intelligence.

Responsibilities

  • Build a team of ~5 highly motivated and capable software developers with focus on Cloud technologies
  • Lead and provide mentoring for the different software engineers.
  • Demonstrate Thought Leadership in influencing the team on technical decisions and problem-solving approaches
  • Define roadmap and vision for our group’s data platform services.
  • Work with other business units within PayPal and develop long lasting and effective partnerships and customer relationships
  • Manage deliverables on high visibility projects, while working with peers in Engineering, Product and program management.
  • Provide progress status reports, resolve conflicts and raise flags about outstanding issues that should be escalated for mitigation.

Requirements:

  • BSc / BA in Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience building distributed systems software infrastructure platforms using Java, Go or Scala
  • 3+ years of experience with building and managing highly functional and self-organizing software teams
  • Execution Excellence and proven track record of delivering E2E software solutions
  • Experience with at least one of the cloud platforms like Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS) or Azure preferrable
  • Experience in designing and building architecture of software solutions
  • Ability to adapt to new development environments, changing business requirements and learning new systems
  • Good team player, able to effectively work across multiple teams on solutions that have complex dependencies and requirements in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to push ideas and influence on decision making in a collaborative manner
  • Independent, self-motivated and organized
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Excellent analytics, problem-solving and debugging skills
  • Experience in working on global environments
  • Experience with data analytics practices – Advantage
