The Big Data Application Servicing Team within the Enterprise Data Platform Organization provides the DevOps platform for the Data Developer Community of PayPal to Build, Test, Deploy, Schedule, Run and Manager their applications and jobs across various data stores (Oracle, Teradata, Hadoop, etc.,). The platform hosts around 100K+ jobs across 3 Schedulers that runs 500K executions per day. We are looking to hire a hands-on Engineering manager who can lead a small team to build frameworks for Big data applications.

  • Hands-On manager with deep technical experience.
  • Experience and proven track record of delivering things End to End.
  • Work across internal customers in various geo-locations across the world
  • Execution Excellence and ability to get things done regardless of anything getting in the way
  • Demonstrated ability to lead engineers with more experience.
  • Rich experience of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Possess deep Technical Knowledge to have meaningful conversations and challenge the team constructively during whiteboarding and design discussions.
  • Collaborate well with other teams with a willingness for win-win discussions.
  • Demonstrate Thought Leadership in influencing the team on technical decisions and problem-solving approaches
  • Build vs. Buy vs. Adopt: Cultivate awareness and opportunities for new & existing open source technologies; understand where & how to leverage them, or when its more appropriate to build from scratch.
  • Ability to handle conflicts.
  • Puts organization ahead of their own interest.
  • Ability to do design reviews and code reviews. Mentors other engineers by providing technical and business guidance
  • Should be highly motivated, results-oriented self-starter, who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, should have appetite to learn and be flexible to pick up new technology and deliver successful results with minimal guidance.

Qualifications         

  • 10+ years of Software Development experience with atleast 2 years experience being a manager.
  • Experience managing and building Spark based applications is a plus.
  • Experience with BigData Applications like Dataproc, BigQuery, Teradata
  • Experience building large scale distributed applications a must.
