Job Description

At PayPal (NASDAQ: PYPL), we believe that every person has the right to participate fully in the global economy. Our mission is to democratize financial services to ensure that everyone, regardless of background or economic standing, has access to affordable, convenient, and secure products and services to take control of their financial lives. We challenge the status quo, ask questions, and find solutions. Join us as we enable the hopes, dreams, and ambitions of millions of people around the world.

This particular opportunity is within PayPal Risk. PayPal's Risk Department is responsible for partnering with global business units to manage a variety of risk types including identity fraud, account take over and stolen financial issues. This is an exciting department where the contributions by team members can really help PayPal's bottom line and create experiences that our customers love. We empower our teams to solve hard problems – customer problems and risk problems – in ways that our customers love, yet work for our risk protection. We staff our teams with the skills necessary to come up with effective solutions that are valuable (the solution stops fraudsters and is also customer friendly), viable (the solution works within the many constraints of business), and feasible (our teams have the skills and technology to implement). While we empower our teams to figure out the best solutions to the problems that need to be solved, we also hold those teams accountable to the results. We look for candidates that are not afraid of signing up for results, even when this means they have to work through others to achieve the necessary results. You will need to be able to influence your colleagues, stakeholders, and key executives, through your use of data and logic.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead a team of risk analysts, risk experts and fraud agents located in Omaha & Chicago
  • Supervise the work of the team and provide analytical and operational guidance to the team
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and other risk analytical teams to discover effective risk prevention solutions, and then work together to implement those solutions.
  • Leverage story-based analytics skills to predict and manage buyer risk associated with PayPal products and accounts
  • Work with engineering team in deploying risk decisioning strategies and enhancing systems

Necessary Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • 2+ years of experience in managing a team
  • 8+ years of working experience in Operations/Analytics/Risk Management/Product Management/Data Science/Strategy/Business
  • Demonstrated ability to figure out solutions to hard problems with many constraints, using sound judgement to assess risks, and to lay out your argument in a well-structured, data-informed, written narrative.
  • Proven ability to engage with engineers, product managers, and company leaders in a constructive and collaborative relationship.
  • Proficiency in SQL
