As the Product Design Manager for Shopping, you will serve as a design lead and manager who is responsible for architecting and executing on strategies that support PayPal customers. You will create meaningful and cohesive end-to-end Shopping experiences through a deep understanding of our customers and exceptional design execution. You will collaborate with product and technology teams to build the next generation of Shopping products by bringing the customer to the forefront in everything we do. You will be both a hands on designer and manager of a team of designers, helping grow & mentor them. You will think through the end-to-end journey from pre-purchase (browse & discovery), through to purchase & post purchase experiences.

The ideal candidate will have orchestrated designs at scale across matrixed, geographically distributed teams, partnered across functions to deliver superior experiences across multiple channels. The successful candidate will lead a team that has passion for designing intuitive applications using iterative and quick prototyping techniques that can be evaluated with end users. He/she will find and develop the world’s best design talent, helping to ensure a world-class, high-performing design organization and have a passion for coaching designers and partners in empathizing with the needs and behaviors of our customers and our business, and how to solve for them through design. This individual will thrive in a fast-paced work environment that requires strong problem-solving skills and independent self-direction, coupled with an aptitude for team collaboration and open communication.


  • Manages a team of 5-7 user experience designers and drives best practices in process and methodology
  • Leads UX efforts across the team, driving discussion and activities, while participating in delivery, planning, and coordination efforts
  • Ability to both manage a team of designers and be a hands-on designer.
  • Determines best UX solutions based on customer feedback and business goals and helps to determine overall direction, identifying challenges and adapting as needed based on the context of the solution and customer
  • Is customer-focused, with experience using design research methods to uncover customer insights
  • Influence product, design, and engineering executives through storytelling and analytics
  • Coaches team to present a broad set of potential designs for any project & propose new solutions or optimizes existing ones. Encourages artifact reuse and consistency across team members and projects
  • Leverages and extends the use of established UX techniques and deliverables
  • Contributes to the UX community of practice through the adoption of new technologies and methodology
  • Sets an example and creates opportunities to foster collaborative cross-discipline dynamics. Drives UX team delivery excellence, furthering internal and external UX influence and goals


  • 6+ years’ experience in User Experience Design + and additional 1-2 years managing direct reports
  • Experience establishing, leading, and inspiring highly talented and productive user experience teams
  • Complete UX skill set: workshop facilitation, identifying customer problem statements, problem discovery, solution generation, concept creation, wireframing, testing, synthesis, iteration, prototyping, heuristic evaluation, competitive analysis, customer journey mapping, applying design systems, and producing deliverables for development
  • Proven ability to deliver high-quality results
  • Experience leading delivery, through feedback, design critique, presentation to program sponsors, planning and coordinating with partners where needed
  • Thorough knowledge of essential channels and platforms, with experience in mobile, dedicated, web, and native solution design.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Experience with resources such as product design systems, repositories, and internal communication tools.
  • General awareness of technology mediums (i.e., JavaScript, HTML/CSS) including differences between them
  • Solid knowledge of story and backlog management tools and resources such as JIRA, Rally


Bachelor or Master Degree in the study of design including one of the following; Design, Information Architecture, Human Factors or equivalent project/portfolio experience.
