The Marketplace SME team is an important part of the PYPL sales org, whose overall goal is to grow and strengthen PayPal Marketplace merchant partnerships, drive increased revenue for the Marketplace and PayPal, and support overall adoption of PayPal’s payments solutions in the marketplace. This role is responsible for taking a pro-active role in growing and protecting the business of some of our most important Marketplace customers (“Core MPs”). This role will focus on Core Marketplaces that are domiciled in North America. Specifically, this role will be one that is a ‘Subject Matter Expert’ as it relates to the unique needs of marketplaces. It will focus in all areas that are important to marketplaces and their sellers including but not limited to payments, growth, shipping, payouts, billing, check-out, product, marketing, credit, risk. This role will partner very closely with the Enterprise Sales team in both a reactive and proactive manner. The Core MP SME will prospect Core Marketplaces for new opportunities and pass those leads to the Enterprise Sales team to drive to completion.

Job Description

  • The SME will be expected to have a deep understanding of their specific portfolio of CORE MP accounts to drive desired outcomes for PayPal.  This will require active prospecting and a hunter/defender mentality to unseat competitors and bring our solutions to the forefront of CORE Marketplaces.
  • Identify growth opportunities within the marketplace portfolio through full stack product integrations, unbranded processing, payouts, credit, risk as a service, or other strategic priorities.
  • Co-selling with the Enterprise Sales team to help drive new cross sell opportunities to close either by the passing of qualified leads to the Enterprise sales team or in supporting the account executive in an active negotiation.
  • Act as the voice of the customer: learning our customers’ pain points and wish list; understanding their priorities and urgency, ensuring that this is shared with the adjacent PayPal business units
  • Teamwork focused mentality, able to influence key internal stakeholders and build key working relaltionships.
  • Close coordination with product, technology, analytics, operations, marketing, credit, risk and professional services teams to ensure that we are meeting the needs of our Core Marketplaces
  • Fiercely competitive in a highly competitive space; able to operate defensively e.g. being highly aware of competitor moves in an account, and structuring deals to secure PayPal prominence
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to articulate business and technical concepts to cross-functional audiences

Ideal candidate

  • 5+ years of experience selling or managing complex payments solutions to Fortune 1000 companies.
  • Prior payments knowledge or selling to Marketplaces preferred
  • Experience working with C-level executives and decision makers in the following functional areas:
    • Marketing
    • Finance
    • E-commerce
  • Proven consultative sales abilities and the ability to work well in a matrixed environment
  • Regularly provides Core MP feedback to leadership and product teams
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to develop value-driven narratives and ROI-based proposals.
  • Consistent track record of exceeding quota targets.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce CRM is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree Required.
  • Familiarity with PayPal products, services and processes a plus
  • Has the unique ability to build and become a trusted advisor

  • Ability to sometimes work at odd hours to accommodate for global partners
  • Location: North America, West Coast preferred

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include taking a pro-active role in growing and protecting our Marketplace customers (“Core MPs”). The SME will be expected to have a deep understanding of the Core MP portfolio to drive desired outcomes for PayPal.

This role will work closely with internal teams at PayPal including Enterprise sales, sales operations, finance, marketing, credit, risk, product, and legal.  The right person will possess superb communication and relationship building skills as well as have proven expertise in the payments space.
