Primary Job Responsibilities:

  • Advising on regulatory issues related to financial industry in particular payments;
  • Supervising all contracting activities, including contract templates and process;
  • Advising the business on marketing, product and general legal risks;
  • Supervising corporate affairs including board meetings, licenses and permits and other necessary registrations;
  • Advising on major projects with large merchants, banks, acquirers, card networks and other stakeholders;
  • Managing external counsel network and other legal spending;
  • Monitoring ongoing legislation and regulatory changes, and assisting with drafting and implementing policies and procedures to address new regulatory requirements. 
  • Assisting with communication with regulators, helping to maintain an open dialogue with regulators and respond to all regulatory requests and audits;
  • Overseeing the customer complaints and escalation process, including litigation and settlements;
  • Communicating and synchronizing with PayPal global teams on critical initiatives;
  • Managing and develop PayPal China legal teams.

Job Requirements

Deep and thorough understanding of Chinese laws and regulations that are applicable to banks, payments, credit card services, remittances, fund settlements, and e-commerce, are strongly preferred, but not required for outstanding candidates who demonstrate strong learning ability.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Chinese Bar is required. Foreign bar is a plus.
  • Top tier international or domestic law firm experience or in-house experience in a prestigious multinational company from technology, internet, financial institution sectors.
  • Able to think strategically and have an outstanding problem-solving mindset 
  • Proven analytical, organizational, project management and planning skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both Chinese and English
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously in a fast paced and dynamic financial services environment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with cross-functional teams as well as Senior Management in and outside China
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on teamwork and ability to foster/manage relationships across multiple departments
  • Experience of managing a team preferred
  • Strong in execution.
