PayPal Canada Co. is seeking a high calibre and energetic legal counsel with experience in financial services regulation and technology to join our Canada Legal team, primarily supporting product and marketing initiatives, and other matters as may be required.

PayPal Canada Co. is seeking a high calibre and energetic legal counsel with experience in financial services regulation and technology to join our Canada Legal team, primarily supporting product and marketing initiatives, and other matters as may be required. The Corporate Counsel – Product/Regulatory will:

  • Provide proactive, timely and business-focused legal advice on applicable financial services regulations.
  • Advise on the design and modification of products, proactively identify associated risks and recommend mitigation strategies, and review product user experiences, terms & conditions, and marketing collateral to ensure legal compliance with applicable laws.

The successful candidate will have the specific qualifications and experience:

  • J.D. or equivalent required.
  • Admitted to, and in good standing with, a Canadian Bar.
  • 6 or more years of experience practicing either in-house (or in an equivalent setting) or at a reputable law firm, with a focus on payments law, the fintech space, or financial services and related regulatory analysis.
  • Ability to advise on federal and provincial money transmission and financial services regulations; data privacy; anti-money laundering, consumer protection, advertising; payment card network and Payments Canada rules; and other guidance coming out of federal and provincial agencies such as the Bank of Canada, FCAC, CRTC and OPC.
  • Familiarity with, and strong interest in payments (including alternative payments technologies), credit and related sectors.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and to tolerate change and ambiguity.
  • Confident self-starter with strong interpersonal and organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively and proactively provide sound legal advice, exercise good business judgment, and work well with other attorneys, management, and cross functional stakeholders.
  • Ability and drive to take ownership of projects and tasks.
  • Comfortable with interpreting and applying the law in unsettled contexts.
  • Creative thinker with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, with effective resolution of conflicting priorities.
  • Fluency in French is an asset.
