The PayPal India Business : While PayPal has always offered its Indian customers ways to buy from overseas merchants and sell across the border, the domestic payments platform of PayPal was launched on November 8th 2017. See: https://www.paypal.com/stories/us/paypal-launches-domestic-operations-in-india PayPal India Domestic Engineering Team : The “PayPal India Domestic Engineering Team” is responsible for triggering new initiatives for PayPal India and emerging markets with focus on agility, time to market and innovation. The group will help roll out new features to the India market, and has embarked upon some new and exciting opportunities. The engineers in this team also have a unique opportunity of working closely with the local India business team, customer support teams, product owners and other global product and engineering teams. The scope of problems to solve for our Indian customer base is large, and this team will be in the center of all the action for growing and scaling PayPal’s payments platform in the world’s largest democracy. The Role: The role is for a lead engineer working on building futuristic and delightful payment platform features and experiences for PayPal's Indian customers and merchants.

A customer focused, hands-on engineering lead, responsible for designing, implementing and delivering state of the art payments solutions for the Indian market. The ideal candidate is an individual with strong experience and awareness of the payments industry trends, card and bank processing, payments security and payment transaction models. Business acumen, hands-on technology skills, positive work ethic and a collaborative mindset are key to the success of this role.

The prospective candidate will be working with various cross functional groups (business, product, analytics, user experience design and engineering) and will require admirable articulation, negotiation and influencing skills . The person is also expected to be an able individual contributor, a lead, a mentor and a peer. The role would involve building new and emerging payments platform and experiences for India and similar hyper growth markets, that would redefine how customers of PayPal pay and get paid.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of high impact payments initiatives for PayPal India.
  • Actively work towards developing products that meet high standards of security, scalability, performance and reliability.
  • Act as a bridge between product and technology teams and marry business needs with technology solves.
  • Work closely with the solutions architect, engineering leaders and the engineering team to deliver solutions for the customers.
  • Be a hands on individual contributor, who can design solutions, code them, as well as review the deliverables of other team members.
  • Work closely with our integration teams and merchant partners to arrive at best in class payments experiences for our merchants.
  • Research, assess, and recommend external technologies and products for their applicability to complex project requirements and contribute to the development of new company concepts.
  • Collaborate with core platform and infrastructure teams to satisfy the infrastructure needs for payments solutions.
  • Question existing architecture and provide efficient alternate solutions.
  • Understand the payments business and how technology decisions impact the business.
  • Sense evolving business trends and translate them into needs into technology solves.
  • Represent the company in external industry and academic forums.
  • The role may require an annual travel of 2-3 weeks to our engineering centers world-wide.

Design skills

  • Demonstrated experience with large-scale software architecture and development, and/or high-volume websites and web services.
  • Solid understanding of web-scale architectural considerations such as security, performance, scalability, reliability etc.
  • Be able to define, adhere to and influence upon others, proven engineering standards adopted in the software industry.
  • Proven experience in both realtime online transaction processing systems as well as non-real time asynchronous processing.

Technical Hands-on Skills

  • Strong Object oriented programming skills and expertise in one of C++, Java/J2EE.
  • Strong working experience and exposure to one or few of the following: node.js, Python or scala
  • Knowledge of mobile programming in Android/iOS is a plus.
  • Working experience with databases such as MSSQL/ Oracle etc. Exposure and Understanding of NoSQL databases is a plus.

Qualifications

  • BSCS plus 12+ years / MSCS plus 10 years of experience in software design, development and architecture
