Job Description
We are looking for a passionate, highly talented, self-driven, and proven software development manager to join our team!
In this role, you will be responsible for leading a distributed mobile engineering team, hire and retain exceptional talent and grow a high-performance team. You will co-own deliverables of the roadmap with other engineering managers and accountable for the successful delivery of mobile experiences.
You and your team will play a pivotal role in building mobile applications using cutting edge technologies for the next generation Buy Now Pay Later (e.g., Pay in 4, Pay in 15, Pay Later to Go!) product suite, expand core capabilities at a global scale to meet ever changing market needs and offer delightful experiences to our customers!
Responsibilities
Build a world-class mobile engineering team (iOS and Android) by hiring exceptional talent, coach, retain and develop team members
Care deeply about code craftspersonship and quality, bringing an enthusiasm for using the best practices of scalability, accessibility, maintenance, observability, automation testing strategies, and documentation into everyday development
Lead by example and hold your teammates and yourself to high engineering standards and advocacy instilling a sense of urgency, ownership, and accountability
Collaborate with multiple mission team leads (a cross-functional scrum team focused on a specific, well-defined mission) to scope, plan, design, and build new features and maintain existing functionality on mobile apps in a fast-paced agile environment and ensure long term goals are not compromised
Lead and participate in technical, design, and product discussions with leaders across the organization to drive right decision-making for the long term
Develop efficient processes, ensuring the engineering team is operating with high velocity, and always look for opportunities to continuously improve and become better every day
Leverage your peers as multipliers for your skills to create excellent products and services for PayPal’s 300+ million users
Ensure 24x7x365 always available production grade services
Requirements
2+ years of experience in building and leading mobile engineering (iOS, Android) team, mentoring engineers including providing feedback, investing in the career growth of your team members
8+ years of experience as an engineer in building mobile applications on iOS (Swift, Objective-C) and/or Android (Java, Kotlin) platforms
Solid foundation in computer science concepts, understanding of Object-Oriented Programming, MVC, MVVM, multi-threaded, asynchronous programming
Experience managing complex systems, with the pattern recognition to make high level architectural decisions but also the ability to weigh in on implementation questions
Experience turning strategies and plans into reality, partnering with product and design to scope, plan and prioritize work. And a commitment to continuous improvement (yourself, your teammates, our software)
An eye for design or an ear for the customer; engineering makes substantive contributions to product definition. Strong empathy for consumers and merchants that PayPal serves and an interest in building products that better serve them
Eagerness to share your ideas, and openness to those of others. Ability to work autonomously to drive clarity in ambiguous situations
Exceptional communication skills and experience balancing diverse priorities in a fair and transparent manner. Ability to navigate difficult conversations, both on your team and with stakeholder teams

Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
