PayPal Australia is seeking a high caliber, Head of / Senior Manager, Small Business to join the team. Working within the Mid-Market, Small Business & Channel Partnerships team, the Head of / Senior Manager, Small Business will be responsible for the revenue driven from PayPal’s small business merchants.

Key to the role will be leveraging your excellent understanding of small business customers to accelerate growth and deliver business results. In addition to a deep understanding of how to manage a portfolio, you will have experience in implementing successful strategies that grow, manage and retain small businesses. You will be responsible for working with multiple stakeholders inside a complex matrix structure, leveraging your superior influencing and negotiating skills to arrive at beneficial outcomes. The role will also see you own and drive initiatives that impact segments outside Small Business, and benefit other parts of PayPal. You will not only be responsible for critical decisions that affect the Small Business portfolio, but will also be looked upon as a subject matter expert in all matters relating to PayPal Small Business. Critical for success will be collaborating with local, regional and global stakeholders across Marketing, Sales Operations, Finance, Risk and Customer Service teams.

Key responsibilities:

  • Overall accountability and responsibility for the ANZ SMB P&L.

  • Develop and influence a support and delivery framework which enables SMB’s to thrive whilst increasing PayPal’s share of influence and business across the segment.

  • Local owner of reporting required to the Board and PPAU Leadership to enable compliance with statutory obligations.

  • Analyze portfolio performance metrics and data to uncover opportunities and risks.

  • Obtain and analyze market intelligence to keep abreast of market trends and competition.

  • Create strategies and execute initiatives to drive the growth of the Small Business segment.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and lead projects to reduce friction in the customer journey/experience.

  • Align with global segment leaders and regional stakeholders on Go-to-Market initiatives that impact AU.

  • Be operationally excellent in the day-to-day running of the SMB business including (but not limited to) forecasting, pipeline development, product development, marketing enablement, Global/Local collaboration and best practice sharing.

  • Collaborate with front line teams, Risk, Operations and other stakeholders who influence the experience of small business customers. 

  • Support and contribute to projects as required to drive growth from our merchant base.

  • Provide regular and detailed analysis, forecasts and updates on the small business performance.

  • Build an operational cadence with regional and global counterparts to ensure that AU continues to leverage best practice.

  • Act as a business partner with business functions including: Finance, Channel Partnerships, Legal, Sales Operations, Customer Success, Global Professional Services and Risk.

  • Participate in local and Global SMB Development organizations and key industry groups to expand PayPal’s consideration within the community.

  • Identify high value business segment/sales campaign opportunities.

  • Build and deliver ANZ SMB strategy, Play a broader role in Mid Market, Small Business and The Channel team, contributing to the success of the whole team.

  • Understand and assess the pain point of SMB’s today, understand the Merchant support needs and develop and action plan to address.

  • Responsible for the execution and operationalisation of the PayPal SMB sales strategy within the ANZ Market.

  • Build, develop and leverage Global and local relationships to drive positive outcomes for AU SMB Business.

Personal Qualities, Knowledge, Experience and Skills Required

  • Candidate MUST have a genuine passion for small business, technology and be a customer champion.

  • Experience in portfolio/P&L management desired; or experienced gained in a senior position across relevant areas such as B2B marketing, Business Analysis, Sales Management or similar.

  • Bachelor’s Degree desirable.

  • Experience in, or knowledge of, the digital commerce or payments industry desired.

  • Strong negotiating and influencing skills.

  • Results oriented, analytical, self-motivated & a “hands on” person with proven ability be self-driven.

  • Proven record of leading complex initiatives with multiple stakeholders.

  • Ability to work within and navigate a complex matrix environment to drive results.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, organizational, negotiation and presentation skills required.
