The Role Reporting to the Americas Global Entity Management (GEM) Leader, the GEM Leader for Mexico will provide leadership for PayPal Mexico legal entity(s). This leader will be responsible for the governance and regulatory agenda for the legal entity structure. The GEM Leader for Mexico may also sit on international subsidiary Boards and therefore will help foster strong internal and external relationships, enabling an experienced international team to execute with excellence. The successful candidate will possess strong commercial acumen, business partnering skills and quickly demonstrate an understanding of PayPal’s core businesses. With strong leadership and functional experience, this leader will possess a track record of supporting and advising a sizeable international business. The GEM Leader for Mexico will keep abreast of industry trends, develop deep relationships both internally and externally and ensure PayPal’s products and services continue to be relevant and delivered in a manner that suits the needs of the market whilst adhering to local rules and regulations. The GEM Leader will also serve as an ambassador and advocate for the international business, particularly in Mexico, maintaining the organization’s external brand and managing external stakeholders, including clients, governments and regulatory bodies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide governance and legal entity oversight of Mexico to support the development of PayPal’s International business, organization, employees and image;
  • Support the execution of strategic regulatory engagement plan for Mexico to continually uplift the relationship with key regulatory agencies;
  • Function as the senior leadership faceoff with regulators during onsite audits, discussions on salient issues, etc.;
  • Help  drive legal/regulatory advice on potential growth initiatives and be accountable for the impact on legal entity management;
  • Enable the business to move quicker by streamlining processes and ensuring the control functions are suitably able to support the commercial objectives;
  • Ensure that the entity has clear and open communication channels back to headquarters / Group;
  • Provide the leadership that encourages the management team to further coalesce into a high-performing, unified whole;
  • Promote PayPal’s internal and external image and reputation internationally;
  • Attract, motivate, develop and retain superior executive talent;
  • Build effective, trust-based, working relationships with Head Office, the local Boards, Regulators, Government, Industry bodies and other key stakeholders;
  • Establish and maintain strong contacts with key officials, including legal, legislative, regulatory and law enforcement individuals and organizations;
  • Monitor and track legislations and regulatory initiatives impacting PayPal;
  • Support crisis management matters with management; and
  • Understand and support local licensing requirements to ensure appropriate compliance with and how it can enable strategic business objectives for Mexico.

Experience:

  • Prior experience as a General Manager (GM) / Chief Operating Officer (COO) or functional executive, in a international leadership team of a significant financial services business of scale and complexity or in related regulated industries;
  • Experience interacting with independent Boards and Regulators;
  • Familiarity with the Mexico and LATAM markets, coupled with perspectives from working in a matrixed environment. Ideally this leader would have experience of working for a US multi-national at some stage in their career;
  • Knowledgeable about competitive forces within and outside of the industry; and
  • Track record of driving results for an organization.
