Looking for qualified accountant with expertise in credit model review who will oversee multibillion European credit portfolio and ensure adequate adoption of new accounting standards under IFRS. You will be part of the Financial Controller Team reporting to the CFO of PayPal’s European Headquarter based in Luxembourg.


  • Ensure the internal and external requirements are met in relation to the implementation of model changes especially around credit models developed under IFRS 9 requirement (ECL, Fair Value)
  • Ensure that models developed in-house or by service provider are fit for purpose via regular (monthly, quarterly) independent review
  • Provide guidance on complex accounting matters to Senior Management and across all functional lines of the organization; in this capacity you will liaise with the Accounting Policy Group HQ accounting team in the US
  • Conduct accounting research, provide recommendations on the application of accounting standards under IFRS and document the company’s positions with formal position papers.
  • Draft new or make changes to existing policies, ensuring policies are up to date with the latest accounting and control guidance.
  • Manage the adoption of new IFRS accounting standards, including updates to Senior Management on the status of adoption.
  • Financial control of the various credit activities. Identify performance and risk indicators and monitor account receivables, cash collection, and credit loss and fraud evolution.
  • Oversee the credit related accounting services. Establish and maintain cross-functional communication channel e.g. BU, Credit Risk, Treasury, Legal, Tax.


  • Qualified accountant, with audit background (big 4), with 8+ years professional experience
  • Professional certification such as FRM, CFA is an advantage
  • Ability to process technical accounting concepts and determine their applicability to PayPal and its products
  • Ability to communicate effectively/clearly to Finance Group to provide technical instruction and to obtain background on current methods of accounting and reporting.
  • Fluent in English. Any other European language is an advantage
  • Experience in Credit business (consumer and/or business lending) is mandatory
  • Excellent ability to analyze risks and recommend controls to mitigate those risks
  • Ability to build strong relationships with senior management and other key stakeholders
  • High degree of personal accountability and ability to prioritize and deliver in a dynamic environment
  • Effective interpersonal skills necessary to effectively manage and influence behaviors both within the team and organization-wide
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within cross functionally / remote teams and dealing with ambiguity
  • Acting with integrity and trust. High ethical standards
