The Job

The PayPal Global Design, Delivery and Operations organization is looking for an MBA summer intern to work with the Enterprise Portfolio Management team on a change management project, which impacts PayPal’s product development. We seek a highly motivated and personable individual who has the ability to think strategically and translate that strategy into tactical actions while building rapport with a broad range of stakeholders in the company.

The project is to assess the initial implementation of a new planning and portfolio management process as PayPal transitions it's product development to a Durable Team structure. The second half of 2017 marked the first wave of product and engineering teams transitioning to the Durable Team structure and early 2018 will mark the initial implementation of a continual planning model.

The intern will work to identify operational roadblocks, areas for improvement, success stories and an overall pulse on how the Planning and Portfolio Management can further support the roll-out of durable teams and PayPal’s shift to in-bound marketing product development. The expected deliverable is a report or white paper with recommendations for how the Portfolio Management team and/or the larger GDDO organization can improve the success of durable teams and continuous planning. If time permitting, the intern will be actively involved in the first steps of the adoption of his/her recommendations.

This role is a unique opportunity to take a front-row seat in an operational shift for a large technology company.

Core Responsibilities

  • Work with various durable teams to observe and understand how the continuous planning model is being adopted

  • Initial steps of project management to possibly roll-out adoption of recommendations
  • Types of insights you may draw: gaps in communication to specific stakeholder groups, gaps in data sets required to make decisions, whether incentives are aligned to promote desired behavior, whether PayPal is making progress towards becoming customer-centric, further operational guidelines needed to foster collaboration across teams, changes to organizational strategy
  • Scope of the analysis may be crafted and focused based on candidate’s specific area of expertise

Our ideal candidate will be…

  • Outgoing and personable
  • Comfortable working with or presenting to senior product and engineering leaders
  • Empathetic, with the innate ability to listen to what is not said
  • Analytical, with ability to can handle multiple data sets
