PayPal is looking for an Engineering Manager with Application Security knowledge to manage a selected group of software engineers who ensure the security of PayPal’s data by building highly scalable products for attack mitigation at the application defense layer. As an Engineering Manager (EM), you will drive the day-to-day execution of technical and design decisions. EM will own engineering deliverables inclusive of solving dependencies such as architecture, solutions, sequencing, and working with other engineering delivery teams. We are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager who has Application Security knowledge and experience to join PayPal's Application Security team in our Austin office.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage a high performing team of Software Engineers in Application Security team part of Enterprise Cyber Security organization.
  • Write and coach team to write high quality code, on time that meets customer’s expectations and is quickly understood and easily supported and maintained by others.
  • Independently research and design integration solutions by documenting individual modules and components to explain their function, responsibility, and execution per business requirements.
  • Building products, tools and services from scratch, as well as evolving existing systems
  • Implement automated test cases to support code and project requirements for use with our Continuous Integration (CI) pipeline.
  • Provide guidance to the team on Application Security, Secure Product Lifecycle and Non-Functional requirements
  • Provide technical coaching and lead direct reports and other members of adjacent support teams to the highest level of performance.
  • Evaluate performance of direct reports and offer career development guidance.
  • Handle escalations from internal stakeholders and manage critical issues to resolution.
  • Collaborate with Security Architects, Product Manager, Program Manager and other teams to deliver high quality product.
  • Manage technical projects and initiatives.
  • Assist with executive communication to senior leadership teams on status of Application Security programs.
  • Build relationships with Infrastructure teams and Software Development teams.
  • Identify recurring system and application issues and enable engineers to work with release teams, infra teams, product development, vendors and other stakeholders in investigating and resolving cause.
     

Job Requirements:

  • 3+ years of managing Software Development teams, preferably in Application Security.
  • 4+ years of Agile Software development practices
  • 12+ years of Software Development experience.
  • Experience in evaluating team member performance and offering career development guidance.
  • Experience in providing technical coaching to direct reports.
  • Experience in designing highly scalable products. Ability to effectively prioritize competing priorities and execute multiple high impact projects at the same time in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in collaborating with global stakeholder teams.
  • Knowledge and Experience with one or more AppSec tools such as SAST, DAST, or IAST.
  • Knowledge of OWASP top-10 and a deep understanding of web application and mobile app vulnerabilities.
  • Excellent debugging and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in facilitating technical conversations between engineering and operations teams.
  • Experience in troubleshooting complex multi-tier applications.
  • Experience in Core Java concepts, JavaScript, Python, Node JS.
  • Experience with database concepts (SQL or NO SQL).
  • Experience in working on highly available production systems.
  • Knowledge in software release process and release pipeline.
