The PayPal Consumer Credit organization is excited to onboard a hands-on Director of Engineering to lead our very strategic Pay Later product and platform build-outs. This leader will have a fantastic opportunity to build cunsumer-facing products and user delight experience on the web and the mobile.

  • This leader must demonstrate a data-driven approach and a platform mindset keeping its uptime, availability, scalability, and performance in mind.  

  • Passion for developer experience, high performance integrations and operational excellence is a must as this team creates technology integrated by PayPal Merchants. 

  • This leader should be obsessed with the customer, their needs, their pains, etc.  

  • This role expects close collaboration and partnership with the head of product and design in developing strategies for global expansion of Pay Later product offerings. Understanding customers' needs, their pain-points, and aligning them with business priorities would be critical traits. 

  • This leader will have an opportunity to expand the high-performing engineering organization with Node.JS, iOS, Android, and Backend Java engineers. Being a mentor, a coach, and an enabler are some essential qualities of this individual.  

  • This person should have the technical expertise to lead software and architecture discussions and guide cross-functional product and engineering teams through design, development, integration, and deployment stages on a large scale. A deep understanding of financial services, platforms, and technologies would be a huge bonus. 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Define technical vision and strategy for PayPal Pay Later products. 

  • Design and lead continuous delivery for a multi-year technical roadmap, balancing short- and long-term goals and investments. 

  • Manage and inspire software engineers to innovate, invent, implement, and deploy complex software solutions in a commercial, mission-critical environment.  

  • Partner closely with Product Management and User Experience Design to create, drive, and deliver innovative, compelling, and user-friendly products. 

  • Develop and grow leadership talent through active mentoring, coaching, succession planning, and retention strategies for key talent in a growing, competitive economic environment. 

Qualifications: 

  • 10 years of professional experience in technology/engineering leadership with a demonstrated track record of technical innovation, presenting product vision and roadmaps, leading end-to-end product development, and leading software engineering teams. 

  • Have led multiple teams that share common services as well as product strategy 

  • Have built and scaled systems that handle 100s of millions of requests a day 

  • Have successes shipping products that have external APIs or SDKs used by your customers 

  • Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience.
