​The Enterprise and Partner Segment Solutions (EPSS) team is responsible for expanding PayPal’s global payment acceptance across all channels, focusing on PayPal’s largest partners and merchants. We operate and develop the Braintree platform—the engine underlying the PayPal Commerce Platform for Enterprises ( and Platforms and Marketplaces ( 

The EPSS team is looking for a senior architect (Director-level) to join our group. As a Solution Architect, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership across entire departments and a vast number of applications. The ideal candidate has a proven record of leading efforts to solve large, complex problems. They balance competing technical and product requirements, help mentor and level up the engineers around them, identify and communicate effectively with all stakeholders, and consider both immediate tactical needs and long-term strategic planning. 



  • Lead technical design, scoping, and execution of projects. 

  • Analyze, communicate and navigate the potential operational and technological risks involved in the implementation of projects by developing a strategy that aligns new development and project delivery milestones with concurrent business-critical operations of the existing platforms. 

  • Act as a change agent by collaborating with senior technology peers who oversee the end-to-end technology stack to influence strategic direction, drive the project agenda and stay ahead of potential roadblocks and impediments. 

  • Design and develop application frameworks. Champion for reference architecture, ensuring adherence, proposing enhancements, and achieve buy in through representation of its capabilities to functional teams. 

  • In a carefully staged and risk-managed way, deliver capabilities to shift workloads from legacy platforms to new platforms, accommodating different service levels and costs. 

  • Operate in lockstep with enterprise architecture, as well as the broader architecture community, to ensure adherence to PayPal Inc.’s overall technology strategy and governance model, as well as to PayPal Inc.’s control functions and its regulatory community. 

  • Serve as point of escalation for technology-related matters within teams. 



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering or the equivalent combination of education, training, or work experience. Post-graduate education desired. 

  • Experience in the financial services industry desired. 

  • Experience managing complex programs successfully executed to completion. 

  • Experience leading technology direction for multiple projects and being the liaison leading/presenting architecture concepts outside immediate workgroup. 

  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills to technical and non-technical audiences of various levels in the organization, e.g., executive, management, individual contributors. 

  • Excellent analytical, decision-making, problem-solving, team and time management skills. 

  • Ability to persuade and influence others on the best approach to take.
