PayPal Developer Platform & Experiences (DPX) organization is looking for a Director of Software Engineering to manage and champion the geographically distributed Build and Test Platform teams, leading initiatives to deploy world class capabilities and infrastructure for PayPal. PayPal has hundreds of delivery teams constantly iterating on thousands of microservices, operating in a polyglot ecosystem. This complex system must service billions of dollars in payment volume securely, reliably, and efficiently while supporting rapid feature development and a high rate of change. The DPX organization enables the PayPal developers to their best effectively so that they could build amazing experience for the customers. This visionary engineering leader will be responsible for transforming the internal developer experience and take developer productivity to the next level in the Build and Test stages of Software Development Life cycle (SDLC). The ideal candidate has deep domain knowledge combined with a strong customer perspective and passion for enabling developers to do their best work. They must also be tireless advocates and community builders within the developer ecosystem as well as establish credibility and influence across the leadership of all organizational units.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and inspire high-performing engineering teams to build and scale highly reliable, secure, and performant Build & Test Platform products and frameworks to enable a frictionless development lifecycle for PayPal developers with a delightful experience.
  • Drive a results-oriented culture with a strong focus on engineering excellence, execution, and craftsmanship as a Customer Champion.
  • Develop trusted partnerships with developers, partners, and architecture leaders to drive optimized platform product delivery.
  • Lead complex technical and strategic discussions that involve multiple personas including engineering, architect, product, customer, and other stakeholders.
  • Drive development and designs/solutions involving the integration of varied technologies and products to meet business objectives.
  • Bring a strong industry perspective that can help shape and evolve the internal PayPal developer experience to be as good or better than other leading technology organizations.
  • Drive effective, mature Agile practices and continuous execution improvements within your teams.
  • Manage stakeholder planning and communications ensuring key outcomes
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor the best engineering and management talent
  • Build, coach, and manage a strong team of engineers that set the standard and can up-level the overall talent of the extended organization.
  • Provide a strong understanding of native mobile developer platforms and bring broad thought leadership to the next generation mobile developer experience.
  • Anticipate and aggressively remove obstacles that slow down or prevent products and programs from delivering on product and program objectives.
  • Balance urgent and effective action, commitment to excellence, and taking the initiative to resolve problems; holds internal stakeholders accountable where appropriate.

Job Requirements:

  • 15+ years of industry experience with 5+ years of senior leadership experience.
  • Solid track record of over-achieving engineering and platform delivery and scaling targets in high volume, innovative and fast-paced high-pressure environment; proven results in delivery on platform product.
  • Global mindset with the ability to think about culture, language, and other aspects when putting the customer at the center of all outcomes.
  • Demonstrated strength at leading all phases of the Testing Lifecycle – from setting the vision to roadmap planning, requirements capture, project definition, execution, and operational excellence.
  • Strong promoter of tracking product and engineering excellence metrics and data-driven decisions.
  • Working experience with Agile methodologies and durable team concepts.
  • Knowledge in DevOps practices and tools.
  • Knowledge in Cloud Technologies, CI/CD, Jenkins, Testing methodologies is preferred.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and across multiple domains.
  • Ability to formulate and deliver on solutions to complex problems in a large and diverse technology landscape with multiple teams.
  • Strong strategic planning and organizational skills; ability to build and lead a team across geographically distributed locations.
  • Can thrive in an environment where success depends on a high degree of cross-functional collaboration to solve complex problems.
  • Passion for leading and developing direct reports; providing guidance, consultation, and opportunities towards improving their professional skillset.
  • Effective management and collaboration with geographically distributed teams.
  • Strong communication, listening, interpersonal, influencing, and negotiation skills; able to convey important messages in a clear and compelling manner.
