Accountable for leading the Data Architecture team in the Core Data Platform organization that is responsible for architecture and design of the data on PayPal’s live site that strengthens the existing data platforms for our customers, improves the core experiences of our customers on these data platforms, and builds new data platforms for the future needs of our customers.

The Data Platform Architecture team in the Core Data Platform organization is responsible for architecture and design of the data on PayPal’s live site that strengthens the existing data platforms for our customers, improves the core experiences of our customers on these data platforms, and builds new data platforms for the future needs of our customers.

As the Chief Data Architect and leader of the Data Architecture team you will be responsible for being a trusted partner with all of PayPal’s various line of business unit senior leaders to determine and deliver on the data strategy for their line of business. You will also oversee the architecture deliverables produced by the Data Architecture team that enable the high priority business initiatives where they are engaged.

Also you will collaborate with product senior leaders and domain chief application architects to influence and guide them on their data storage and data access patterns to select the supported data store that is appropriate for their respective use cases.

You will produce data architecture roadmaps and their accompanying reference conceptual, logical, and physical data architectures.

You will be overseeing the data architeture and design of end to end holistic data solutions that include OLTP data stores (SQL data stores (such as Oracle and MySQL), NoSQL data stores (such as Aerospike, Couchbase, Cassandra, and others), messaging and data movement products (such as Kafka, ActiveMQ, and others), search engine products (such as Elastic Search, Splunk, Solr, and others), as well as OLAP data stores (such as Hadoop, Hbase, Teradata, and others). These end to end data solutions will be a mixture of some on premise, some in the cloud, and some a hybrid of both.

You will ensure that the designs of these data structures to support these access patterns in these data stores meet both the functional business requirements and also have the essential system qualities such as security, high availability, performance, inter-operability, geo-partitioning, and scalability.

You will ensure that these data architectures and data designs support these access patterns, align with and comply with PayPal’s specific enterprise data architecture and design standards for each of the data stores.

You will create and contribute regularly to PayPal’s specific enterprise data architecture and design standards for each of the supported data stores and do research and assessment to find and onboard new data technology offerings to the suite of supported products, both those available commercially off the shelf as well as those available from the cloud providers with whom PayPal has partnered.

 You will work with existing database technology vendors on ensuring their product roadmaps are enabling PayPal’s business needs and serve as the technical advisor to PayPal’s procurement team on pricing negotiations.

You will work with subscription research services such as Gartner to leverage knowledge capital, meet with industry analysts and peer connections to enable PayPal to better develop business solutions.

You will research and onboard new database technology that either replaces existing options supported at PayPal or is a new type of offerings not among the existed supported ones.

You will leverages industry meet ups, industry conferences, technology users groups, and trade periodicals that focus on the contemporary, competitive, business technology issues within the FinTech industry
