The person who fills this role will lead the M&A Finance team and be accountable for the end-to-end processes surrounding PayPal’s acquisitions, investments, and divestitures, beginning with financial due diligence (FDD) and ending with integration of acquirees into PayPal’s global financial processes. The role works closely to partner with Corporate Development (both the Deal team and the Integration Management Office team), cross-functional M&A team Leads, as well as subject matter experts and leaders within the CFO organization. This role will serve as the main point of contact for deep understanding of the acquired business and the acquisition strategy to the CFO organization.

A successful candidate will be confident and assertive, have high EQ and intellectual curiosity, have a broad set of work experiences within a Finance organization, be capable of developing and leading a team, will provide a strong voice to represent Finance throughout the M&A process, and work collaboratively with key partners within Finance (e.g., M&A Tax, M&A Treasury, CAO, FP&A, etc.) and outside of Finance (Corp Dev, M&A Legal, M&A HR, etc.). 

This position will report directly to the Chief Accounting Officer.


Represent the CFO organization in the following:

  • Lead financial due diligence process and direct the use of FDD Advisors where needed
  • Assess significant accounting practices of target companies
  • Conduct interviews with target’s Finance/management team during due diligence and serve as a key contact through integration
  • Contribute insights and learnings of FDD to Deal team and PayPal leadership
  • Provide financial statement pro forma impact assessment and work with Corp Dev to provide insight for the creation of an accretion/dilution analysis and deal model
  • Provide technical accounting and pro forma presentation advice around deal structure and terms
  • Using knowledge obtained through FDD, develop (with Finance partners) a view of the interpretation of target company’s metrics within PayPal’s reporting framework
  • Coordinate preparation of purchase accounting entries and subsequent adjustments (NWC, Indemnity Escrows, PPA, etc.)
  • Facilitate audit requests from external auditors supporting purchase accounting and provide support for any external reporting requirements of the transaction
  • Lead a team of Deal Leads and Process Leads responsible for project management of process/data/systems/people integration across PayPal’s global financial processes
  • Work closely with Finance and Cross-Functional M&A team Leads to provide Finance/strategic guidance throughout integration and to negotiate outcomes
  • Lead definition and execution of the financial track of the company wide integration plan including budget management
  • Track progress toward achieving deal value drivers and work to maximize the success of each acquisition
  • Drive communications within Finance and across the M&A extended team, and follow through to make sure the various parties deliver on their commitments
  • Build the foundation for institutional knowledge and scalability of M&A at PayPal through the development of the M&A Finance Playbook
  • Be the advocate for Finance interests in all aspects of M&A
  • Build relationships with Finance and Accounting of acquired entities, determine and ensure proper home inside PayPal, or effective transitions
  • Represent all M&A activities and present diligence and execution outcomes to Finance Leadership Team (CFO and CFO Directs)


  • Minimum 10-12 years accounting / finance / M&A experience
  • CPA or diverse and strong accounting background. MBA and/or CFA a plus
  • Ability to manage large-scale projects across multiple functional areas, influencing stakeholders and driving results
