The PayPal Developer Platform & Experience (DPX) team ensures the 1,000+ internal product delivery teams developing and delivering PayPal software can do so with minimal friction and maximum speed. It provides the tools, processes, and best practices that guide the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) for all developers and all software stacks. This group helps simplify the process of delivering software so that engineers can spend more time developing and less time managing infrastructure and their pipeline. This is a critical function that ensures every team has the tools and support they need to stay in flow and deliver products globally to compete and win the $5 Trillian dollar FinTech market. This role leads inbound and outbound marketing strategy and customer outreach programs that reinforce a strong partnership between PayPal engineers and DPX.

You and your team will play a key role in building awareness of DPX products as well as ensuring we’re closely connected and enabling PayPal development teams to be most effective and to take developer service operations to the next level. As a Director, Engineering Operations, your mission is to ensure all tools, services, and platforms offered by DPX are always available to serve the needs of the developer community. You will own key ITSM processes around change, deployment, incident management, and post-mortems as well as drive strategies and initiatives to improve the reliability and operability of services. This includes driving a consistent observability, operations, and reporting strategy, evolving maturity of operational metrics, and nurturing feedback loops that encourage continuous improvement. In this role, you will be required to interface, influence, and lead teams from within and across the company to align incentives and drive ongoing operational excellence. The perfect candidate has a strong background and proven track record in a large-scale software operations role, operating in a hybrid cloud environment, with a strong, data-driven approach to problem solving. Strong communication, business savvy, and the ability to navigate and drive results in a complex, highly matrixed, high pressure environment are a must.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Own the availability of developer services for PayPal.
  • Own and drive continuous improvement in core ITSM process for developer experiences and tools. Work closely with senior leadership to develop and deliver a strategic marketing strategy for DPX that supports organizational goals and reaches all key stakeholders.
  • Define and drive operational improvement strategies across the organization, interfacing with teams within and outside of DPX.
  • Adopt and contribute to standard tooling solutions in partnership with other groups.
  • Work with acquisitions and other groups to adopt standard processes, tools, and operational procedures for developer services.
  • Identify and own key operational metrics and insights working closely with the data analytics group and data analysts.
  • Demonstrate relience on data and data-driven improvements to the operational qualities of the system that result in improved customer satisfaction.

Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • 7+ years of experience as an engineer and/or operations manager with several years of experience driving operational improvement strategies.
  • ITSM expert with a practical, process-driven mindset who can deliver practical results and knows when to break the rules.
  • Experience operating cloud-native and hybrid cloud environments.
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills to engage with multiple stakeholders and different teams to deliver solutions efficiently 
  • Highly motivated, result-oriented self-starter who enjoys working in a fast-pace environment. Proven ability to function well independently as well as in a team 
  • Data driven mindset with degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics or Economics 
  • Experience in Fintech/Banking/Credit/Payment industry a strong plus
