The Director of Model Risk Management is a seasoned executive responsible for managing and executing a comprehensive Model Risk Management (MRM) framework for model governance within the Credit Risk organization. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute PayPal’s Enterprise Model Risk Management Policy, including standard operation procedures for model development, documentation, and ongoing monitoring
  • Ensure that all model governance policies, procedures and controls align with the model risk management policies of our federally regulated Bank partners
  • Serve as the primary interface with PayPal’s Legal, Compliance, Model Development, and the Business Unit teams to review and approve all new models proposed for use in PayPal Credit
  • Serve as the primary point-of-contact between PayPal and our Bank partners for all model governance related topics/issues
  • Work directly with PayPal’s Second Line of Defense (SLOD) team to ensure that all models are properly developed, documented, risk rated, validated and monitored
  • Define appropriate performance and stability monitoring metrics for all models (underwriting, fraud and marketing) to ensure models continue to perform as expected


  • Proven experience in similar functions within financial institutions and/or technology companies
  • Solid understanding of model development techniques and industry standards
  • Strong working knowledge of SR 11-7 supervisory guidance on model risk management
  • Expert knowledge of risk management concepts/controls and lending industry practices
  • Proficient in one or more model development tools (SAS/Python/R etc.)
  • Experience in a global, multi-cultural, environment – a major plus
  • Ability to drive change and achieve results with strong collaboration and soft influence
  • A trust-building/people-person with strong communication skills
  • Self-managed, proactive team player, who can teach others
  • Higher education degree in STEM/data fields - a plus
