Xoom is seeking an enthusiastic DevOps Engineer to help us strengthen our world-class business. In this role you will be responsible for helping maintain, and shape the future of, Xoom Production Operations for mission critical systems. You will collaborate closely with engineering, operations, and infrastructure teams to help define, grow, and maintain our production infrastructure and continuous delivery systems.

The charter of the Production Operations Team is to provide 24x7 incident response, develop and maintain automation and tooling, deploy software developed and tested by Xoom Product teams, and maintain compliance with all business, security, and regulatory requirements for Production Operations in Xoom. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Promote a culture of automation, transparency, and accountability.
  • Maintain the virtual machine infrastructure in support of the Xoom application stack as we continue adoption of immutable infrastructure as code.
  • Operate both cloud-based and on-premises data center systems during our cloud migration journey.
  • Codify and automate manual tasks to reduce toil.
  • Assist with troubleshooting and triage efforts during incidents.
  • Assist with development of root cause analysis and participate in postmortem exercises.
  • Adopt new technologies and strategic initiatives to reduce change friction and promote availability, e.g., Kubernetes.
  • Create, review, and improve documentation for tools and processes used in support of the infrastructure.


  • Several years’ experience administering Production Linux systems (RHEL/CentOS preferred) in a 24x7 Production environment.
  • Scripting or coding experience with one or more languages (e.g., bash, python).
  • Strong understanding of network architecture and protocols for LAN and WAN (TCP, UDP, ICMP, ARP, BGP).
  • Strong understanding of the OSI layering model, with a focus on Layer 7 protocols (HTTP/S, DNS, NFS, SMTP, SSH).
  • Comfortable with REST, JSON, XML and similar web service concepts
  • Understand basic cryptography, TLS handshake protocol, and certificates.
  • Participation in a 24x7 on-call rotation.
  • Ability to trace and debug issues across the entire technology stack.
  • Ongoing motivation to automate manual, repeatable tasks.
  • Excellent communication, time management, prioritization, and context-switching skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and follow-up.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English, with Spanish as a nice-to-have.
  • Able to work independently and responsibly in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience and/or strong understanding of docker, terraform, packer, ansible, Jenkins.
  • Technical understanding of, or experience using, datastore technologies such as MySQL, Elasticsearch, Cassandra, Redis, Zookeeper, Kafka.
  • Experience managing F5 and/or Google load balancers
  • Experience fulfilling PCI and other security oversight requirements.


  • B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent technical training and professional work experience
