The Instrumentation Solution team seeks a top-performing, highly-motivated Engineering & analytics expert to join a center of excellence at PayPal that is at the heart of driving data-driven decision-making. The ideal candidate is a technologist who believes that technology is in its infancy, and the best is yet to come. The nature of the role is technical, strategic, analytical, and highly collaborative, working with team members across World and also as a liaison for Global projects. Help data engineers build scalable platforms that produce business metrics and enable monitoring of those metrics. You will wear several different hats, but you will wear consistently that of a leader. Strong behavioral analytics knowledge, experience with SQL, developing frontend and full-stack applications, and a desire to drive positive change are essential to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with other Product Managers to understand new product offerings being built and work with analysts to recommend the right metrics to measure the performance of those features 
  • Provide strategic and tactical guidance on specific data elements that need to be tracked in order to enable tracking of metrics and assess user behavior
  • Collaborate closely with engineering teams, provide ongoing support to help instrument tracking elements
  • Collaborate with data platform teams to build/enhance necessary data platforms to provide metrics & business insights and in building, alerts to monitor those metrics
  • Develop a strong understanding of the PayPal tracking infrastructure; Identify and act upon opportunities for simplicity, consistency, and re-usability of tracking code
  • Train and provide expert consultation to product management, engineering, analytics, and other teams on tracking standards, tools, and processes
  • Document best practices for data tracking and maintain documentation for self-service use
  • Be able to design independently, code, and test complex features, as well as lead and mentor other engineers, help build engineering teams
  • Drive both technology and product innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development
  • Be a technical subject matter expert and represent the full internal and external capabilities of the platform.
  • Lead complex architectural discussions that involve multiple systems
  • Identify any product/functionality gaps and collaborate with internal product and technology teams to define the necessary development to support solution delivery.
  • Drive integration efforts and lead critical workstreams of strategic initiatives sponsored by senior executives
  • Drive engineering excellence through CI/CD
  • Pro-active response in identifying and troubleshooting integration or technical issues.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering discipline with a strong quantitative aptitude
  • At least 8 years of work experience. 
  • At least 4+ years of experience developing front-end and full-stack applications
  • At least 3-4 years of analytical experience in a business context, focused on web, mobile or product analytics.
  • Strong SQL skills required.
  • Deep Familiarity with JavaScript, NodeJS, React, Angular, and Spring framework.
  • Experience with web front-end technologies such as HTML5, CSS3, Webpack, LESS, Bootstrap.
  • Deep understanding of and extensive experience applying advanced object-oriented design and development principles and familiarity with Java and frameworks (for, eg. Spring)
  • Experience collaborating with business users to define the key business requirements and translate them into process/technical solutions. 
  • Experience applying software design patterns.
  • Experience with unit testing and tools.
  • Experience using industry-standard software development tools (IDE / Version Control / Continuous Integration). 
  • Expertise in online payments and related domains is a plus. 
  • Appetite for learning and being comfortable with uncertainties
  • Strong system and data flow knowledge. Ability to learn and adapt to new product flows and software technologies. 
  • Strong analytical, research, problem solving and evaluative thinking skills.
  • Strong communication skills - including the ability to listen to the needs of others and comprehend complex matters, articulate issues clearly and concisely, and present effectively in both oral and written presentations to all levels in the organization.
  • Team-oriented approach – can effectively lead a project or participate as an effective team member and work cross-functionally with other organizations. 
  • High level of energy and a desire to thrive in a large, complex, fast-paced organization. Ability to handle multiple projects under pressure.
  • Experience working with Hadoop, Apache Spark, and big data technology is preferred but not required. 
  • Solid understanding of behavioral analytics concepts with respect to UX design, data tracking, AB testing, and metrics
  • Understanding of service-oriented architecture, data flows in multi-tier systems, event tracking, and relational data structures.
  • Previous experience working with Product Managers & Analysts in designing and driving data tracking for business metrics
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes effectively without direct authority
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and skilled at adjusting communication style/vocabulary to your audience’s role/function and technical familiarity 
  • Self-starter, driven, strong relationship builder, passionate about learning and making a difference 
  • Familiarity with Payments ecosystem or PayPal’s tracking and experimentation platform highly desire
