The GFCCP (Global Financial Crimes) DAIS ( Data and Analytics)team requires a Data Engineer to deliver compelling data solutions  to the leadership team. The day to day job involves helping create business data objects that will drive insights and analytics. Further this foundational work on the data side will inform leadership on KPIs using a data-driven approach based on analysis of large data sets in a complex, fast-paced, dynamic environment. Ideal candidates are problem solvers with experience in data engineering roles, equipped with strong analytical skills suited to approach varied challenges in complex big data environments. You will be required to drive projects and solutions from start to finish. Having a strong sense of accountability coupled with a passion for delivering crisp data insights and the ability to tell stories through data are essential.



Specific Responsibilities

  • Analyze large volumes of internal and external data using common data science tools (SAS, SQL, R, Python, Tableau, Looker, etc.) to deliver unique insights into relationships across a wide array of products, platforms, customers, merchants, and experiences.
  • Manage and improve the process of data collection, ingestion, manipulation, and display for reporting processes
  • Collaborate with all aspects of the PayPal GFCCP business including a broad range of partners to plan and deliver fully developed solutions for analytics and reporting
  • Lead the planning, development, and delivery of analytic and reporting projects from start to finish; includes all stages of project identification, stakeholder engagement, project management, and closeout

  • Solid technical data skills and ability to work with large volumes of data; extract and manipulate large datasets using common tools such as SQL, SAS, Hadoop, or other programming/scripting languages (Python, Perl, R, etc.) to translate data into business decisions/results

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of experience in data engineering
  • Familiarity with data engineering, data management, data modelling, standard ETL techniques including extract, de-duping, cleansing, integration, and aggregation
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of SQL using Teradata, Hadoop, Hive, Spark, or other big data technologies; Google Big Query a plus
  • Working knowledge of reporting delivery platforms; Tableau, Looker, Microstrategy, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence critical business outcomes in a matrix based, global environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and collaboration skills to effectively communicate with both business and technical development teams
  • Experience in Fintech/Banking/Credit/Payment industry a strong plus
  • At a minimum, candidate must have a bachelor’s degrees in a quantitative discipline (e.g. computer science, engineering, operations research, or mathematics); preferably an advance degree.
