PayPal’s Global Data Services (GDS) organization heavily relies on data-driven analytics, modeling, decisioning and operations. GDS is responsible for PayPal Risk’s data activities across multiple big data platforms and  supports multi-latency batch processing, near-real-time processing, online and offline bi-directional data streaming, etc. 

Job Description

GDS-ART-Data engineering team is looking for a talented, creative, and passionate data engineer to operate and develop data solutions on one of the largest data platforms in the world. These solutions span multiple technologies and platforms like  Hadoop, Teradata, Oracle, Spark , Kafka, SQL, KV-Store  etc.

  • Working with and providing support to multiple teams on different sites and time zones.
  • Execute solutions E2E – Design, Development, Deployment and Operation.
  • Working in an agile environment and with cross-functional teams like DBAs, Developers, Support Engineers, Product, Risk and business units, etc.
  • Operating and troubleshooting existing data solutions. Investigating issues proactively and as a response to request/ticket opening.
  • Identify potential solutions, shortlist and compare them. Finalize the solution by collaboration with business.
  • Build and test solutions, spanning multiple technologies base on design documents.
  • Coordinate and perform deployment to production.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant fields.
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills - a must.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience working with batch processing and ETLs- a must.
  • Excellent SQL skills required on (at least 2 technologies) Hive/Spark/Oracle.
  • Working experience with relational databases - beyond just data access – a must.
  • Experience with (at least 2) the Java/Scala/Python/Bash programming language – a must.
  • Self-learner, self-motivated, independent and organized
  • Service oriented.
  • Good understanding of algorithms, data structure, and performance.
  • Strong communication skills – verbally and written.
  • Ability to work with local and remote teams.
  • Ability to work in agile and dynamic environment.
  • Agile, flexible, multi-tasking.
