The Crypto Controller will work in tight collaboration with key stakeholders of the Blockchain, Crypto and Digital Currencies (BCDC) business unit. In this function, you will play a pivotal role in supporting PayPal’s activity, ensuring that we can consolidate and ultimately integrate our crypto activities in an efficient, well-controlled manner. The Crypto Controller has an exciting opportunity to help develop and build a scalable accounting infrastructure in support of PayPal’s BCDC product offerings, and to interact with senior leadership across the firm. This high-visibility role requires an understanding of US GAAP principles, accounting operations, regulatory reporting, and internal controls.

Job responsibilities include:

  • Plan, direct, and coordinate all BCDC product accounting functions, including process design and implementation
  • Proactively engage with a cross-functional stakeholder team for new BCDC product launches across key stakeholders within Finance (Accounting Policy, Corporate Controllership, International Controllership, Tax, PMO teams, Financial Operations, and the Finance Systems Team, among others) while serving as a Subject Matter Expert for the Accounting function
  • Design business and accounting processes to improve/strengthen internal controls and track remediation of any control deficiencies
  • Serve as a primary point of contact to external financial statement auditors for all BCDC activities
  • Manage the accumulation and consolidation of all financial data necessary for an accurate accounting of business unit results
  • Coordinate and prepare internal financial reporting, any standalone external financial statements, and any required regulatory reporting, as well as supporting PayPal’s consolidated financial reporting
  • Support the Business in new product implementations from an accounting and control perspective
  • Support the Finance team in a variety of strategic tasks and tactical projects

Job Qualifications (required):

  • 5-8 years of experience with a financial services or global technology organization
  • Passion for cryptocurrencies and blockchain technologies
  • Entrepreneurial and enjoys taking ownership of projects and being accountable for results
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to distill and communicate accounting concepts between cross-functional teams within the organization
  • Excellent organizational skills with a proven track record of managing multiple simultaneous tasks to completion
  • Accustomed to working autonomously
  • Ability to use SAP & SAP BW and deep familiarity with Excel and PowerPoint
  • Detail-oriented, customer-focused, and have a track record of getting things done. Moreover, you love operating in a dynamic and demanding environment, think critically, act quickly, and partner naturally. Good judgment and team building skills are key success factors in this role
  • Ability to influence where you do not have direct authority through analysis and interpersonal skills
  • Comfortable working with diverse teams in multiple locations

Job Qualifications (desired):

  • Previous capital markets experience in managing and developing trading businesses, lending desks, FX, rates and derivatives teams, hedge funds, asset managers, and exchanges is a plus
  • Experience working at Big 4 is a plus
  • Previous experience or demonstrated interest in crypto is a strong plus. (For those with this experience, PayPal is the opportunity to apply your learnings to a platform of 400+ million users)
  • Familiarity with data analytics and visualization tools like Looker or Tableau is a plus
  • Graduate degree in a quantitative field such as Economics, Finance, Accounting or Math is a plus
  • CPA preferred
