The Market Benchmarking Compensation Manager will be responsible for supporting the development of a compensation and market analysis strategy aligned to PayPal’s Total Rewards Philosophy and reflective of the markets in which we compete for talent. This role will assume responsibility as the subject matter expert for compensation benchmarking across our global locations utilizing published, crowdsourced, peer group, ad hoc and talent acquisition data. The Compensation Manager will partner with Rewards Partners and Program Managers, Executive Compensation team members, Global Talent Acquisition and HR Business Partners to identify current challenges, understand market best practices and build a global benchmarking program that fits PayPal’s current and future talent needs.


  • Develop and maintain the parameters for determining market benchmark comparators by job family, level, and geography to align with PayPal’s Total Rewards philosophy and Compensation Strategy.
  • Conduct annual global market benchmarking to evaluate the competitiveness of salary & total cash ranges, base pay, short-term and long-term incentives, and other compensation programs to support the attraction and retention of employees at all levels, entry through executive.
  • Research and analyze current and alternative third-party survey sources to ensure relevancy and availability of data across all job families and levels. Recommend ongoing survey participation and spend.
  • Participate in completing third-party compensation surveys. Update, maintain, and ensure the accuracy of data in the market pricing tool.
  • Analyze market data to develop and maintain salary ranges, short-term incentive targets and equity ranges to fit current and future grading and career level framework. Recommend structure alternatives based on the Compensation Strategy, including differentiation for key job families and locations as appropriate.
  • Analyze market data and create proposals for the effective use of available pay increase budget. Develop cost models and provide recommendations to ensure the competitiveness of PayPal’s compensation programs.
  • Network with industry compensation professionals and participate in networking groups to build relationships and actively maintain knowledge of best practices and industry trends. Ensure PayPal’s benchmarking programs meet those standards.
  • Conduct ad hoc benchmarking analysis to address specific market concerns. Participate in industry group ad hoc market studies.


  • Education & Industry Experience:  Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources or other related field or equivalent experience is required. 8+ years’ related experience required. 5+ years’ compensation experience, including 3+ years’ compensation market benchmarking experience required. Global compensation experience preferred.
  • Software Skills: Proficiency in software programs including Microsoft Office required. Intermediate to advanced Excel skills required. Previous experience with compensation market pricing software and HRIS required; Workday and MarketPay experience preferred.
  • Process and Analytics Skills: Strong critical thinking, analytical and technical skills with the ability to review, summarize and report findings. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement process enhancements and efficiencies. Ability to successfully perform independent in-depth analysis and gather competitive intelligence.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong communicator, with the ability to independently develop and deliver recommendations to all levels in the organization.
  • Team and Interpersonal Skills: Ability and confidence to work as a credible partner with all levels of the organization. Self-motivated, collaborative, and works successfully in a team environment. High attention to detail and strong follow-up skills. Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
