As a member of the Commercial Underwriting team, you will be responsible for conducting financial assessments and ongoing monitoring of merchants in the Commercial Seller segment. This is a full credit underwriting review that includes analysing company financials and bank statements to assess credit worthiness, processing complex data to draw meaningful conclusions and make holistic business recommendations.

Core Duties:

  • Interpret and analyse credit bureau reports, personal and business financial statements, merchant processing statements, business history, background investigations, and bank and trade references to assess credit worthiness
  • Experience preparing financial assessment (growth trends, efficiency ratios, cash flow generation, burn rate, debt levels, overall liquidity), interpreting financial performance, competition comparison, and assessing credit exposure
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with cross-functional stakeholders on risk insights. Make recommendations, provide feedback to help develop underwriting policies and support the quality assurance program with the local team
  • Where necessary, assess PayPal acceptable use cases, regulatory & credit card compliance, and legal considerations with respect to a seller or industry
  • Develop a holistic view on both individual sellers and across industries, proposing appropriate recommendations to mitigate PayPal’s risk and manage seller experience
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation and audit trails of underwriting assessments, reports, methodologies, etc. in a timely manner
  • Monitor seller performance across portfolio segments, as needed
  • Evaluate and share feedback on data, tools, process and assessment methodologies for continuous improvement, aiding to develop & test solutions where suitable
  • Other opportunities & projects relevant to managing the financial risk of PayPal’s sellers

Skills/Experience:

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience, in underwriting or credit risk assessment, with experience in financial statement analysis, financial modelling, forecasting and valuation
  • Credit underwriting, banking and management consulting profiles are preferred.
  • Be comfortable with complex data and analytics to draw meaningful insights
  • Be a team player, with strong interpersonal & communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Be highly curious and thoughtful - a proactive self-starter with a sense of urgency and bias for action, in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of SQL is a plus, but not essential
