Global Data Sciences (GDS) is the centralized data science group in PayPal. It is the R&D group for business teams and the center of excellence across PayPal for working with Big Data. The team has more than 120 software engineers, data-scientists, modelers, analysts and other skilled technical staff is uniquely focused on developing science, technology and strategies to aid in detecting and preventing fraud, protecting our customers and in managing other risky events. The group is centered in Tel-Aviv with teams in Shanghai and San-Jose (CA), and reports directly to PayPal’s Chief Risk Officer (CRO). We are looking for outstanding Big Data folks to join us early on and help build monitoring and tracking functionalities for GRDS analytical solutions, detect and investigate production issues to address real business needs. Primary responsibilities

  • Troubleshooting live issues for GDS data science solutions by dig into source code during normal course of work, and collaborate with different partners (e.g. Data Scientists, Platform developers) to solve problems with minimum guidance. 
  • Design, develop and maintain the data platform and data-driven monitoring tools for GDS data science solutions in Big Data platform, using cutting edge technologies. 
  • Look for improvement opportunities with business impact, participate in the documentation and implementation of processes, procedures, and policies for GDS Live monitoring, investigation and data team.


  • Solid foundation of Java/Scala. Have passion in developing and supporting data driven system with Big data components (Hadoop/Spark/Hive).
  • Strong in problem solving. Ability to synthesize information and work in a DevOps way.
  • Good documentation habit and can sync up with teams across different locations remotely
  • Have experience with Python, DB/SQL and Shell script is a big plus.
  • Highly motivated, goal driven, innovative, curious, and open minded. 
  • Passionate for staying on top of technology front and unlock the power into business
  • Have knowledge in predictive modeling, data mining and analytical tool is a plus. 

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or quantitative field with 2+ year professional work experience. Or Master’s degree in an engineering or quantitative field with 1+ year professional work experience
  • Team spirit and Good communication skills. Fluent in English, both written and oral.
  • Work effectively in a global team across different time zones
